Rodi Garganico lies on a rocky promontory on the northern side of the Gargano, between two beaches. The town is part of Gargano National Park; its landscape ranges from beaches and coastal pine groves to terraced olive and citrus groves inland. This means that different sides of the Gargano come together in Rodi Garganico: a historic center, coastal views, and surroundings shaped by citrus and olive cultivation. You can choose what will define your stay based on the places and activities that interest you most.

Old Town and Views

The historic center is freely accessible year-round and is explored mainly on foot via stone lanes and stairways. Numerous panoramic terraces offer views over the marina, the beaches, and the citrus groves of the Gargano. On clear days, the panorama extends as far as the Tremiti Islands. This brings the coast, harbor, and agricultural landscape into view together, while the rocky promontory defines the town’s setting.

Numerous small roads also lead uphill from the town center, allowing you to explore the surrounding area. This offers two different perspectives on Rodi Garganico: the routes through the lanes and stairways of the historic center, and the small roads that lead uphill from the center into the surrounding area.

Neighborhoods, Churches, and Art

Vuccolo, a distinctive old neighborhood, lies in the lower part of Rodi Garganico’s fishing village. Another important part of the town’s history is the Convento dello Spirito Santo. Capuchin friars founded the complex in 1538; the Chiesa dello Spirito Santo within it was built in 1678. The church preserves frescoes of the prophets Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, and Isaiah, created by the painter Paolo Gamba. The founding of the convent, the construction of the church, and the paintings preserved there offer different starting points for exploring the town’s architectural and artistic history.

Admission to the Convento dello Spirito Santo is free during the complex’s opening hours and during religious celebrations. If you plan to visit, check the opening hours in advance.

Citrus-Growing Landscape and Produce

The citrus-growing area in the territory of Rodi Garganico stretches between the Romandato stream and Molino di Mare. Citrus fruits grown in Vico, Ischitella, and Rodi are part of the Gargano citrus-growing area, whose produce has received IGP recognition. In Rodi, citrus products can be purchased directly from producers; check availability before your trip. This allows you to discover citrus culture both as part of the landscape and through local products.

Festivals and Excursions

The Madonna della Libera is solemnly celebrated every year on July 2. On the last Saturday in April, the Convento dello Spirito Santo hosts a gathering and festival. If you would like to plan your trip around one of these celebrations, check the date for the relevant year when making your plans.

From the marina, you can book excursions along the Gargano coast or to the Tremiti Islands, and rent boats. Check availability before your trip. This also allows you to add a boat trip to your stay, while the town’s history, art, and citrus-growing landscape offer different themes for the rest of your time.
