Frigole: Beach, waterscape and hotels
Accommodation in Frigole
Frigole is shaped above all by its coastline, nearby Acquatina and the history of water management. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Frigole, this combination can help you decide what to focus on during your trip: the beach, waterscape, cycling route or historical connections to the town. These themes complement one another and offer concrete points to consider when planning your trip.
The beach and marina as coastal landmarks
The coast of Frigole is predominantly sandy and includes a wide beach with very fine sand. A large part of the beach is served by bathing establishments. If you plan to visit a particular stretch of beach or a specific bathing establishment, check the latest information from the business in question; individual facilities may change. For 2026, Marina Frigole received the Blue Flag. This award applies to the marina and the year specified. For your trip planning, these are distinct considerations: the nature of the beach, the distribution of bathing establishments and the marina’s recognition for a specific year.
Acquatina and the landscape
Acquatina, located near Frigole, is an artificial body of water with lagoon-like features. Aquatina di Frigole is designated as a Site of Community Importance (SCI). Alongside the coast, this offers two additional points of reference: a body of water of artificial origin and a designated landscape area. If you do not want to focus your stay exclusively on the beach, these themes offer another way to explore Frigole. Its artificial origin and lagoon-like features describe two distinct characteristics of Acquatina.
Lecce–Frigole cycling route and Tramareterra
For cycling enthusiasts, the Lecce–Frigole cycling route is a specific point of reference. Its final section connects Piazza Bertacchi with Acquatina and the Frigole pumping station. The route also runs tangentially to the Bosco La Lizza – Macchia del Pagliarone SCI. This section therefore connects named landmarks with its own connection to the designated area, making the route another aspect of the town to consider alongside the beach and waterscape.
The Tramareterra project is separate and comprises two circular routes. In the project, the sea route is planned to run from Frigole’s town centre along the coast. A connecting path intended exclusively for cyclists and pedestrians links the circular routes within the project. The themed routes are designed as “park roads” with educational, recreational and ecological functions. This information describes the project plans. The Lecce–Frigole cycling route and the planned Tramareterra routes therefore offer different ways to explore the area: one is a named stretch of route, while the other is a concept comprising circular and themed routes.
Idrofore di Frigole: water management and history
The Idrofore di Frigole are a reminder of the town’s historical water management. At the time, the facility’s function included collecting water below sea level through a network of canals, lifting it with pumps and directing it into the sea. The Idroforo was commissioned on 2 December 1905. A tall chimney belonging to the Idrofore di Frigole also stands on the coast of Frigole and is associated with the state-led draining of the marshes at the beginning of the 20th century. Together, the pumps, canals and chimney provide a historical reference to the technological transformation of the landscape. If you want to understand Frigole in terms beyond its beach and cycling route, this history adds another dimension to its water and coastal setting.
