When looking for a hotel in Marina di Ginosa, first decide whether you want your stay to focus on the beach, nature, local history or traditions. For your planning, the approximate duration of nature outings and how you will get there are also relevant. Check train connections against the current timetable.

Beach and protected landscape

The beach at Marina di Ginosa is seven kilometres long, with fine white sand and exceptionally clear water. Marina di Ginosa received the Blue Flag in 1998; the award was confirmed through 2014.

The Lago Salinella is near Marina di Ginosa, about three kilometres from the built-up town centre. This 90-hectare protected coastal wetland lies within the Riserva naturale Stornara nature reserve. This means you can choose between the beach and a protected natural area as distinct focuses for planning your trip.

There is a botanical garden in the Pineta Regina. “Scopriamo la Pineta Regina” focuses on the characteristic flora of the Pineta Regina. If you are considering this experience, check in advance whether it is available during your travel dates.

Choose nature outings by duration

An approximately three-and-a-half-hour nature walk leads from the pine forest to the sea, through Mediterranean scrub and dunes, along the Lago Salinella and as far as the area in front of Torre Mattoni. It is considered an easy tourist route and suitable for all age groups. A nature-focused horseback ride in the pine forest is planned to last about one hour, so the activities differ considerably in duration. Before your trip, check whether the relevant activity is available on your dates.

Coastal fortification and local traditions

Torre Mattoni, also known as Torre di Bradano, is a coastal fortification in Marina di Ginosa. It was already listed in 1569 as part of the coastal defences of the Kingdom of Naples. The two names refer to the same fortification and can help you identify this historic site under either name.

Madonna a mare is a long-standing rite in Marina di Ginosa. The Madonna is carried along some of the town’s streets to the beach, where a mass is celebrated; the procession then continues by boat. The feast of the patron saint, Saint Anthony of Padua, on 13 June includes a procession through town accompanied by a band and a closing fireworks display. If you would like to include either event in your travel plans, check the specific event date in advance.

Getting there and planning your trip

Marina di Ginosa is well connected by the S.S. 106 Ta-Rc road. In 2022, Marina di Ginosa railway station was served by regional trains to Taranto and Potenza. If travelling by train, check the current timetable to make sure your journey fits your travel dates.

If an outing or event is a deciding factor, plan your trip around its current availability or specific date.
