Acquappesa Cs: Coast, thermal waters and churches
Accommodation in Acquappesa Cs
Acquappesa Cs offers hikes of varying durations and elevation gains, beaches, the Terme Luigiane thermal spa, churches and recurring festivals.
Hiking by duration and elevation gain
The hike through the Gole del fiume Bagni takes one and a half hours and has an elevation gain of 30 to 40 metres; its difficulty is described as “no difficulty.” The hike to Dito del Diavolo e bosco della Mortilla takes two hours, has an elevation gain of 170 metres and is described as a gentle ascent. Compared directly, the first hike is half an hour shorter; the second has the greater elevation gain. Trail conditions can change; check before setting out. Dito del Diavolo is a dolomitic rock pinnacle at 301 metres above sea level. Thermal springs rise at its foot.
Coast and thermal spa
At Spiaggia dello Scoglio della Regina, fine grey sand is mixed with small pebbles. Scoglio della Regina itself is entirely surrounded by the sea, belongs to the municipality of Acquappesa and is located more precisely in the hamlet of Intavolata. Swimmers can reach it from the nearby coast; sea conditions and bathing safety vary. Spiaggia delle Sirene can be reached via a staircase at the end of the Intavolata Marina promenade. Access conditions may change; check accessibility before your visit. The beach starts with fine grey sand and consists mostly of pebbles smoothed by the sea.
The Terme Luigiane thermal spa has a wellness centre with a wet area. Its thermal waters are hyperthermal and sulphurous, as well as saline, bromine-rich and iodine-rich.
Churches and festivals throughout the year
The Chiesa di Santa Maria del Rifugio is the mother church of Acquappesa and is located in the historic centre on Via Rifugio. It houses a silver monstrance with a reddish, chased and Baroque-decorated base, made by a southern Italian goldsmith’s workshop in the 18th century. The Chiesa di Santo Iorio is dedicated to the Madre dei Pellegrini (Mater Viatorum) and houses a 16th-century icon depicting the Virgin Mary with the Child. The Chiesa di Santa Teresa in Intavolata dates from the 18th century. It contains a statue of Saint Teresa from 1849, created by the sculptor Giovambattista De Seta.
The Festa Patronale di Maria Santissima del Rifugio is traditionally celebrated on 1 and 2 July in honour of the Madonna del Rifugio, the town’s patron saint. The Festa di Santa Maria degli Angeli takes place every year on 1 and 2 August in Acquappesa. If you plan your trip around one of the festivals, check the event dates in advance.
