Zambrone between coves and culture
Accommodation in Zambrone
Zambrone combines coastal experiences with history and regional culture. On the Costa degli Dei lies the well-known tourist resort of Marina di Zambrone, with its broad sandy bay. The coastline is almost three kilometers long; about 1.8 kilometers of it are considered usable. These measurements give an idea of its extent without equating it with the entire coastline.
Coves and coastal scenery
The coves of Marinella di Zambrone consist of several small bays with white sand and crystal-clear water. They can be reached by path or by sea—with canoes, pedal boats, or small boats. Both access by path and excursions on the water are therefore among the described ways to experience the coves.
The large rock Scoglio del Leone also shapes the coastal scenery. It owes its name to its distinctive shape. On “Passeggiata tra le onde,” visitors turn their attention to enormous waves breaking against the rocks of Capo Cozzo. Zambrone is also considered a destination for scuba diving enthusiasts in Calabria.
Experiences by the sea and in the landscape
While snorkeling, visitors experience clear waters rich in fish; the activity is suited to experienced snorkelers as well as beginners. Paragliding flights pass over the hinterland, beaches, and coastal cliffs. The two experiences focus on different things: one takes place in the water, while the other offers aerial views of several coastal landscapes.
The “Trekking dalla Marina al Monte” hike passes through the region’s diverse landscapes and is considered scenic, varied, adventurous, and suitable for everyone. The four experiences offer different highlights: snorkeling in the sea, paragliding in the air, hiking through varied landscapes, and La Giornata del Pane, which is connected to the rural breadmaking tradition. Check the dates if you plan to schedule any of these experiences.
History and culture in Zambrone
The Church of San Carlo Borromeo stands in the heart of Zambrone, on Piazza San Carlo, and has very ancient origins. The 1905 earthquake almost completely destroyed it; it was rebuilt with modifications in the 20th century. Its history thus brings together a long past, a specific turning point, and the subsequent reconstruction.
The open-air museum Calabria al femminile portrays 14 Calabrian women from throughout the region’s history—from Magna Graecia to the present day—with 13 statues. In Parco della Poesia, several panels are made of ceramic tiles bearing poems of literary merit. The two sites offer different cultural highlights: one is dedicated to women in Calabrian history, the other to literature.
The traditional Festa di San Carlo Borromeo honors the town’s patron saint. It includes a religious procession through the streets of the town center, accompanied by a brass band. The program may vary from one edition to another. La Giornata del Pane is an interpretation of a typical day in rural life, dedicated to the rural tradition of homemade bread as it was made in the past.
The topics described offer different points of connection without making the coast and culture the same kind of holiday experience.
