Discover Campoli del Monte Taburno
Accommodation in Campoli del Monte Taburno
Campoli del Monte Taburno can be explored through three distinct themes: its mountain landscape, the Chiesa di San Nicola da Mira and its festival culture centered on local foods. If you are planning a stay, these different aspects of the town can help you decide which ones match your interests.
Mountain Scenery and Hiking Trail
The historic center of Campoli del Monte Taburno is crowned by a mountain range that culminates in Mount Taburno and Mount Camposauro. The limestone ridges have rugged profiles and bare, rocky peaks, which are flown over by several species of birds of prey. Geology, terrain and wildlife all contribute to the landscape. The town center and the mountain heights offer two different points of reference if you would like to combine culture and nature when planning your trip.
One specific hiking option is the Sentiero T2. It runs from Campoli del Monte Taburno to Campo Cepino as a nature trail through the Parco Regionale del Taburno-Camposauro. Check current trail conditions before setting out.
Church Architecture in the Historic Center
The Chiesa di San Nicola da Mira is an 18th-century church. Its features include religious sculptures, a carved stone portal and a bell tower with a public clock. The furnishings, the stonework on the portal and the clock each add a distinctive touch to the building. This makes the church a specific cultural point of interest alongside the mountain landscape and the town’s events.
Cherries, Beans and Local Events
The Festa della Ciliegia has been held every year in Campoli del Monte Taburno since it was revived in 2008. The Italian Senate awarded it the title “Sagra di qualità ” (Quality Food Festival). The cherries themselves also represent a long agricultural tradition: they are among the ancient cultivated crops with a cultural heritage spanning millennia. The festival and the crop thus highlight two different aspects of the cherry theme.
The Sagra del Fagiolo offers a different culinary focus. It has usually been held for two days in Campoli for many years, in Piazza La Marmora. The main focus is the Fagiolo del Taburno, along with other traditional savory and sweet regional dishes. Cherries and beans are therefore clearly distinct local specialties.
Wine is also among the documented event themes. “Calici di Stelle” was scheduled for August 8–10, 2024, as a food and wine event for the night of San Lorenzo; it was part of the Circuito di Città del Vino. As part of “Scoperte in Vigna,” participants were to be taken through the vineyards and the historic center on September 7 and 8, 2024. The program also planned to pair wines from Campoli with Pizza alla Ciliegia.
