Agerola can be explored for trip planning through its specific trails, viewpoints and historic sites. Hiking destinations differ in their routes and views; churches, a palazzo and cultural connections complete the picture. This allows you to decide which themes you would like to focus on during your stay.

Hiking Trails and Views

The Sentiero degli Dei offers views of Positano, the Sorrentine Peninsula, the Li Galli islets and Capri. Its route passes through the Vallone Gradelle and then on to the hamlet of Nocella. When finding your way, you can therefore take into account both the viewpoints mentioned and the route itself.

The Circuito Tre Calli loop leads to Monte Tre Calli. At the top, a 360-degree view opens up over the Gulf of Salerno, the Sorrentine Peninsula and Capri. The Circuito Colle Sughero offers a different view: the route passes through Crocelle, Colle Sughero and Colle Sant'Angelo; from there, the view extends as far as the Gulf of Naples. If views matter to you when choosing a route, these two trails differ in the panoramas each offers.

The character of the routes also varies. The Circuito della Colonia Montana is a hiking trail with no technical difficulties and starts in San Lazzaro, a district of Agerola. The route to the Convento di Cospiti is of moderate difficulty. It leads to views of Amalfi and the remains of a medieval monastery. The stated difficulty levels are not the same: one route has no technical difficulties, while the other is classified as moderate.

The Anello del Penise loop focuses on the river and landscape along the route: it follows the Penise River through a green valley with chestnut woods. You will also pass rock dwellings and the ruins of an old Bourbon gunpowder magazine. The combination of valley, river and historic traces sets this trail apart from routes that focus on the views.

The Valle delle Ferriere includes an integral nature reserve with rare and endemic plant and animal species. On routes with changing trail conditions, check the conditions before setting out on a hike.

Churches, Buildings and Culture

The Chiesa di San Matteo Apostolo stands in Bomerano’s central square and, with its elegant façade, is considered an important historical and architectural landmark. The first records of the church date back to 1158. After it was destroyed, it was rebuilt in Bomerano’s square in 1580 and still stands there today. Both the square and its long history are therefore among the features of this building.

The Chiesa Madonna delle Grazie was built on the site of an older chapel mentioned in documents from 1798. The church is open during the day; check the latest information on visiting conditions before your visit. The Chiesa di Santa Maria La Manna dates back to the 13th century. Together, the two churches offer different historical reference points: one is linked to the year 1798 through the older chapel, while the other was built in the 13th century.

An adjoining oratory of the Chiesa di San Pietro Apostolo houses a painting from 1592. It depicts the Madonna del Carmine between Saint Anthony and Saint John. Palazzo Acampora is another historic landmark: it dates back to the 18th century and is one of the rare examples of patrician residential architecture on the upper Amalfi Coast. This information does not imply that the palazzo is open to the public.

Punta Miramare, also called Punta di San Lazzaro, is associated with the creation of Salvatore Di Giacomo’s poem “Luna d’Agerola.” Parco Corona has a playground, a picnic area and a path lined with chestnut trees. The two places appeal to different interests: one is linked to a poem, while the other offers the leisure facilities mentioned.
