If you’re looking for a hotel for a trip, churches, historic residences and a green space can help you decide whether Casalnuovo Di Napoli suits your interests. You can explore the town’s history through its phases of construction, religious traditions and specific works of art.

Churches: architectural history, pilgrimage tradition and art

Chiesa San Giacomo Apostolo il Maggiore was built in the first half of the 16th century at the behest of Angiolo Como. It replaced a small chapel dating from the second half of the 15th century. Its single-nave interior is surmounted by a dome; four pendentives are painted with biblical figures. Here, a documented building history is paired with distinctive spatial features and decorative artwork. The church entrance and car park are accessible to wheelchair users.

At Chiesa Santa Maria dell’Arcora, older and ongoing connections are part of the town’s history: the church stands on the remains of an earlier small chapel and remains a stop on the Fuienti pilgrimage to Santuario di Madonna dell’Arco in Sant’Anastasia. Its left-hand chapel contains a particularly valuable 18th-century depiction of Madonna delle Grazie. The entrance and car park of Chiesa Santa Maria dell’Arcora are accessible to wheelchair users. Its described combination of pilgrimage tradition, an earlier chapel site and a work of art sets it apart from the architectural history of Chiesa San Giacomo.

Other churches also offer specific historical points of interest. In 1583, Chiesa San Nicola di Bari was elevated from a simple chapel to a parish church. Its 18th-century marble high altar features inlay work; the coats of arms of the Salerno-Doria and Salerno-de Liguoro noble families are displayed on its sides. Chiesa Santa Maria ad Nives is a Benedictine church dating from the late 16th century.

Construction of the chapel Chiesa Santa Maria delle Grazie in Casarea began at the behest of Maddalena Chiacchieri Pisacane in the early years of the 19th century and was completed in 1817. Chiesa Santa Maria delle Grazie houses two 18th-century paintings: one depicts Madonna del Rosario, San Domenico and Santa Rosa da Lima, while the other shows the archangel San Raffaele with the young Tobia. The building’s construction period and the subjects of its paintings offer different ways to explore the town’s religious history.

Palaces and historic traces

Palazzo Salerno-Lancellotti was the residence of the barons of the old Casale Licignano. It retains its original open-courtyard layout: the buildings are arranged on three sides around a walled courtyard. Palazzo Manna has retained almost all of its structure; a small chapel dedicated to San Giuseppe is attached to the palace. These two buildings represent different aspects of local architectural history: one has a preserved courtyard layout, while the other retains most of its structure and has an adjoining chapel.

Villa Marra, on the edge of the old town centre of Casalnuovo, is marked as Masseria Marra on Rizzi Zannoni’s 1793 topographic map of the Agro Napoletano. Palazzo Berlingieri was a two-storey residence of the barons of Casalnuovo. Together with Palazzo Salerno-Lancellotti and Palazzo Manna, these historic traces broaden the picture beyond churches to include aristocratic residences and earlier architectural forms.

Green space and rail connection

Parco delle Chiocciole is a 1,325-square-metre landscaped green space right by the centre of Casalnuovo di Napoli. Its size and location offer a different perspective on the town from its churches and residences: here, the focus is on a green space right in the town centre.

The rail service between Casalnuovo and Napoli operated Monday to Saturday from 1 July 2026. Check the current timetable before travelling.
