Montecorice combines varied beach profiles with rolling hills, local history and maritime tradition. When looking for a hotel, you can consider in advance whether the character of the beaches, historic townscapes or the landscape will be the deciding factor for your stay. Looking at the individual places can help you decide more precisely which side of Montecorice you want to focus on during your trip.

Coast, Beaches and Rolling Hills

The Ripe Rosse stretch along the SS 267 on the high coast, from the old settlement to Tempa Rossa, which lies about 150 meters above sea level. The landscape description therefore includes both the coastal stretch along the road and Tempa Rossa, with its approximate elevation.

Baia Arena is a sandy beach with rare beach vegetation, including sea lilies. Agnone Beach, by contrast, is a mixture of sand and pebbles. If you are comparing beaches by their surface, Baia Arena is sandy, while Agnone has a mix of sand and pebbles. Baia Arena also has a botanical feature in the form of sea lilies.

The rolling hills are also part of Montecorice’s character. A distinctive pattern of dry-stone terraces is preserved on the ridges along the valleys. Beyond Case del Conte, an Aleppo pine forest covers the hills. These present two contrasting landscape features: terraces on the ridges and pine forest on the hills. If you want to consider more than just the beaches when choosing a destination, these features offer a specific point of reference.

Local History and Historic Traces

Ortodonico is laid out around the Torre marchesale. Together with the tower, the Church of Sant’Antuono forms the cultural center of the village. The old town center has also preserved its characteristic architectural features exceptionally well. For those interested in historic townscapes, the combination of the village’s layout and its well-preserved center offers a specific point of reference.

Traces of a Lucanian place of worship dating from the 5th century BC were discovered at the summit of Collina della Croce in Ortodonico. This adds an archaeological link to antiquity to the village’s architectural history.

The only windmill in Cilento stands in Montecorice. It was built at the beginning of the 20th century and is still well preserved. The rural Passoláre houses were formerly used for drying figs. The discovery dating from the 5th century BC and the construction of the windmill at the beginning of the 20th century mark very different periods in local history.

Maritime Tradition at San Nicola Harbor

San Nicola tourist harbor is known for the traditional preservation of anchovies. For recreational boaters, the harbor may serve as a port of call from June to September; to moor, they must contact the designated municipal offices. If you plan to moor, check the seasonal dates and municipal contact details in advance. This will allow you to factor the seasonal option into your travel plans.
