Poderia is a hamlet in the municipality of Celle di Bulgheria. For planning your trip, you can choose between two distinct focuses: a walk through the old village with its architectural landmarks, and hiking trails on Monte Bulgheria with views of the landscape and rivers. These options highlight different sides of the place. If you are planning a stay, you can first decide whether you would like to focus on local history or hiking.

Hiking on Monte Bulgheria

The Valle Cupa trail begins at the Santuario di Santa Sofia in Pantrato in Poderia and connects to the trail leading to the summit of Monte Bulgheria. A circular route on Monte Bulgheria follows the Pagliaro and Valle Cupa trails near Celle di Bulgheria and Poderia. Valle Cupa is therefore part of both a trail starting at the sanctuary and connecting to the summit trail, and the circular route; the loop also includes Pagliaro. This allows you to distinguish between starting at the sanctuary and following the circular route that connects the two trails.

The Pagliaro and Valle Cupa trails pass through fertile soils, olive groves and Mediterranean scrub, then continue through dry areas with lavender and thyme. Along Valle Cupa, views of the Mingardo River extend to its confluence with the Torrente Serrapotamo. The changing vegetation characterizes both trails, while the river views are an additional feature of the Valle Cupa section. For planning your excursion, these offer two distinct points of interest: the changing vegetation along both trails and the views of the waterways along Valle Cupa.

Churches and the old village

The walk through Poderia passes Santa Maria Assunta and continues through the old village, with its old stone portals and visible details of medieval masonry. These features give the village walk an architectural focus, distinct from the landscapes along the hiking trails. The walk also reaches the old Santuario di Santa Sofia. Benches are available there among centuries-old olive trees.

The Chiesa dell'Assunta in Poderia dates back to the 14th century and houses a wooden statue of the Virgin Mary dated 1770. The dates refer to different things: the century refers to the church, while 1770 is the date of the statue. If you are interested in local church history, this offers a clear contrast in the dates of the building and the artwork.

The half-ruined Cappella di San Michele, dating from the 16th century, is another religious site in Poderia. Together with the Chiesa dell'Assunta, it offers a comparison of different historical periods and architectural features: here, the statue of the Virgin Mary dated 1770; there, the condition of a 16th-century chapel. For exploring local history, these are two distinct points of interest that highlight specific features beyond names and dates.
