Rocca Cilento: Castle, Winery and Panorama
Accommodation in Rocca Cilento
Rocca Cilento offers different points of interest to consider when planning your trip: the medieval village with its panoramic views, the “Mt. Stella and Rocca Cilento” route, and visitor experiences at Castello di Rocca Cilento. If you are looking for a hotel, you can weigh whether the view, a particular hike, or the wine and olive oil offerings matter most to you.
Village and views
From the medieval village of Rocca Cilento, there are panoramic views across the Alento Valley and out to the Tyrrhenian Sea. The view thus brings together two distinct landscapes: valley and sea. If you want to choose the place for its views and historic character, the village is a specific point of reference. This focus differs from the hiking route, which is described by its distance, elevation gain, estimated duration and difficulty level.
Hiking route to Monte Stella
The “Mt. Stella and Rocca Cilento” route goes on foot from Omignano (431 m) to Monte Stella (1,131 m). It is 3.6 km long, takes about two hours, has an elevation gain of 700 m and is rated E (hiking). For your planning, these details belong together: distance alone does not fully describe the route; the approximate duration, elevation gain and difficulty rating provide additional guidance.
Castle, winery and tastings
Castello di Rocca Cilento is a boutique hotel. It also offers a range of experiences in elegant halls, on panoramic terraces, and in spaces for tastings and cooking classes. This combination is relevant when planning your trip if you want to include a visit to the castle as well as a hotel stay.
The winery in the castle is a visitor route through a labyrinth of small rooms. A sommelier-led visit connects the history of the manor house with an oenogastronomic and architectural journey from the winery to the vineyard. This means that, alongside wine, the house’s architecture and history are also a focus. You do not need to stay overnight at the castle hotel to visit the winery.
The Gran Torre tasting includes four wines paired with complementary products at four different locations in the castle; reservations are required. Unlike the guided winery visit, this experience focuses on the wines, the paired products and the different tasting locations.
Gran Torre is the tallest tower in Castello di Rocca Cilento and offers the most expansive views; from there, the view extends across all of Cilento. While the village offers panoramic views across the Alento Valley and out to the Tyrrhenian Sea, the tower provides views across Cilento.
At the “Olio su Teca” olive oil library, visitors can taste different varieties of olive oil with guidance from experts. The olive oil tasting adds a distinct theme to the wine offerings. If you do not want to associate food and drink exclusively with wine, it is another clearly defined focus.
