Rofrano can be considered for trip planning through three themes: nature in the municipal area, the historic town center, and trails and outdoor activities. If you’re looking for hotels in Rofrano, these highlights can help you match the destination’s character with your own interests.

Landscape and Nature

The Forra dell'Emmisi lies on the edge of Rofrano’s built-up area and is approximately 500 meters long. The municipal area also includes part of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano e Alburni National Park. The limestone massif of Monte Cervati lies north of the built-up area, while the Mingardo River lies to the west. Monte Cervati and the Mingardo are each designated as Sites of Community Importance.

Town Center and Building History

The historic town center preserves its original urban layout, with an interconnected network of streets and stairs. The town’s layout is therefore itself part of its history, complementing its individual buildings. The Le Tre Porte route connects the three historic entrance gates: Porta del Leccio, Porta Vallone and Porta San Antuono. It is intended to introduce visitors to the origins, role and development of the town center.

The bell tower of the Church of San Nicola di Mira is a concrete point of reference in terms of both time and architecture: it is 35 meters high and was built in 1755. The Church of Santa Maria di Grottaferrata tells a different story. After a landslide, it was rebuilt and reopened to the public in 1996. At San Nicola, the focus is on the tower’s dimensions and construction date; at Santa Maria, it is on the landslide, rebuilding and reopening.

Trails and Outdoor Activities

Parco Avventura Piano della Croce is an equipped adventure park for visitors in Piani della Croce, Rofrano. Check the facility’s details before your trip. The Forra dell'Emmisi also offers a specific activity: its deeper sections can be traversed by canoe piloted by members of GET. If you plan to take this option, check availability locally.

The rugged course of the Fiume Faraone in the Emmisi and Fistole gorges is suitable for canyoning. The thousand-year-old Via Sacra, which leads to the summit of Monte Sacro, offers a different perspective. In the past millennium, it was used by pilgrim caravans from Basilicata and Calabria. An excursion resource updated on March 17, 2024, lists a GPX track for the Monte Centaurino–Rupe di San Paolo hike.

Regional Connections

Rofrano is one of the municipalities along the Cammino di San Nilo. Pomodorino di Rofrano offers another regional connection: a regional product listing updated on August 29, 2019, describes its production area as the agricultural land of the municipality of Rofrano and neighboring municipalities. The area therefore includes not only land within the municipal boundary, but also land in neighboring municipalities.
