The built-up area of Sicilì lies on the slopes of Monte Mamino; Sicilì is a hamlet of Morigerati. When looking for a hotel, you can get a sense of the place through its village layout, churches and walking routes. These themes appeal to different interests: local history is reflected in the shape of the village and its religious sites, while walking trails offer a distinct way to plan your trip. First consider whether historical development or walking will be more important during your stay.

A village shaped by its hillside setting and history

Sicilì’s diagonal layout follows the local topography. Former watercourses that once ran through the village influenced its growth and urban development. Two aspects therefore come together: the settlement’s form follows the terrain, while the former watercourses shaped its development. Careful restoration work carried out in recent years preserved Sicilì’s historic character. This marks a more recent phase alongside the longer-standing influences on the village’s layout. When exploring Sicilì, you can thus distinguish between the formation of the settlement’s layout and the later preservation of its historic character.

Churches and layers of history

The Church of SS. Annunziata stands in the oldest part of the village. The De Stefano family had it built in the 19th century on the site of an ancient Italo-Greek place of worship dedicated to San Teodoro. The SS. Annunziata thus links its own building history with the site’s earlier religious use. The Santuario di San Biagio is located in the village church and adds another sanctuary to Sicilì’s religious heritage. For those interested in cultural history, this offers two specific perspectives: the history of the site where the SS. Annunziata stands and the sanctuary associated with San Biagio.

Walking routes with different roles

Sicilì’s walking routes can also be distinguished by their role. The Isca Trail from Sicilì forms the final section of a walking excursion. On a guided route along the Cammino di San Nilo, participants set off from Sicilì in 2022 on the historic Madonna dei Martiri trail. These routes therefore have two different functions: the Isca Trail is part of the final leg of an excursion, while Sicilì serves as the starting point for the Madonna dei Martiri trail on the Cammino di San Nilo route. The guided route was part of an itinerary in 2022. If you are considering a guided tour, check the current dates.

Cilentan cuisine in the historic center

The family-run Ristorante-Pizzeria-Bar “Ustaria Rosella” is located in Sicilì’s historic center. It serves typical Cilentan dishes prepared with local products. If you are also considering regional cuisine when planning your trip, this is a specific place to experience it in the historic center.
