Accommodation in Camposonaldo
Camposonaldo combines a hike along an ancient road with planned cycling routes and the history of its parish church. These themes offer different ways to shape your trip: on foot, the focus is the route from Santa Sofia to Camposonaldo via the ancient road; by bike, the focus is on rides that pass several named places. The church’s history stretches from the old Pieve to a major turning point caused by the earthquakes of 1918–1919. You can therefore explore Camposonaldo through both landscape and cultural themes without treating a hike and a cycling tour as the same thing.
Hiking along the ancient road
A hiking route runs from Santa Sofia to Camposonaldo via the ancient road. The route also continues to Ca’ del Papa, which is in a scenic location. This excursion brings together two distinct highlights: the ancient road gives the route a historical connection, while Ca’ del Papa adds a landscape perspective. This gives you a concrete way to combine the history of the route with scenic views when planning your day—a useful focus if you like to organize your outings by theme.
Cycling routes with different starting points
In April 2026, four new cycling tourism routes were designed as part of the Agribike Romagna project, taking visitors to the gentle hills of Pondo, Spinello and Camposonaldo. A regional cycling route description from 2026 also features a ride that starts in Santa Sofia and leads to the villages of Camposonaldo and Spescia, which are marked by their modern history. The tours have different emphases: the project names several routes and hill destinations, while the other ride highlights its starting point in Santa Sofia and two villages. When planning, you can distinguish between a broader destination area and a specific, named connection. Check the latest route information before setting off.
Parish church: Pieve, baptistery and reconstruction
Camposonaldo is considered an old Pieve; its church had a baptistery. The parish church is dedicated to San Giovanni Battista. This church history goes back further than the structural changes of the 20th century. The earthquakes of 1918–1919 damaged the church so severely that it had to be demolished. During reconstruction, a square bell tower replaced the earlier bell gable. The change can be traced through two specific architectural features: the bell gable was followed by the square tower. Together with the old Pieve and the baptistery, these features reveal a local history in which church tradition can be distinguished from a major reconstruction.
Festa della Madonna del Carmine
A specific glimpse of the festival tradition comes from 28 July 2019, when the Festa della Madonna del Carmine was celebrated in Camposonaldo. A traditional procession to Calci followed a Mass. The program combines a church service and a procession, giving the festival a local connection. If you would like to plan your trip around the Festa della Madonna del Carmine, check the event dates in advance.
