Tredozio lies in the Tramazzo Valley on the border between Romagna and Tuscany and is part of the Foreste Casentinesi, Monte Falterona e Campigna National Park. For planning your trip, hiking and cultural history offer different points of interest: Lago di Ponte, several historic religious buildings and the Museo della CiviltĂ  Contadina.

Hiking trails with different points of reference

The Sentiero delle Foreste Sacre runs in seven stages from Lago di Ponte di Tredozio to La Verna. Lago di Ponte lies above Tredozio on the Tramazzo River and was artificially created in 1962. The Sentiero Natura Lago di Ponte also starts here and runs through the upper Tramazzo Valley. The trails differ in their routes: one runs in seven stages from the lake to La Verna, while the other starts at the lake and runs through the upper valley. For planning a hike, this comparison offers a practical starting point: a multi-stage route with a named endpoint or a trail that starts at Lago di Ponte.

Buildings, art and local history

Palazzo Fantini was built before 1500. Near the palazzo, the Museo della CiviltĂ  Contadina preserves agricultural tools and machinery; its collection is divided into thematic sections. The museum thus focuses specifically on agricultural tools, alongside the architectural and artistic history of the religious buildings.

The Pieve di San Michele dates back to the 12th century and houses a crucifix painted in the 14th century by the Rimini school. The building is therefore older than the artwork it preserves. The Chiesa della Compagnia and the Oratorio della Beata Vergine delle Grazie were also built in the 14th century. The Torre Civica has medieval origins. Vicolo Mercatale was the old entrance to the village. The Castellaccio dei conti Guidi also has another recorded name: it is called Castello dell’Aquila because of its position on a rock.

Tradition and local cuisine

The Sagra e Palio dell’Uovo in Tredozio draws on an Easter tradition of egg tapping that was once practiced in the nearby Parrocchia di Ottignana. This link to the earlier custom gives the festival a specific historical connection to a place in the surrounding area. Paciàrela, a polenta dish with leeks and beans, is part of the local food culture. Visitors interested in regional cuisine and tradition as well as buildings and hiking trails will find two clearly defined themes here: a historic Easter custom and a dish with its characteristic ingredients.

Getting your bearings in the town center

The Tredozio park information office is in the historic town center, in a building that served as the local post office’s first premises in the 16th century. This connects practical information about the park with the building’s former function. The town’s history is thus reflected not only in churches and towers, but also in a building with a specific role in local postal history.
