Formigine brings together a castle museum, historic architecture and green spaces, as well as routes with different themes. When planning your trip, it is useful to distinguish between cultural attractions, a cycling connection and a nature trail: the Castello and villas offer a glimpse into the town’s history, while the Ciclovia del Mito and the trail along the Torrente Tiepido have different route features. This lets you match your interests with specific places and route details.

Castello di Formigine and Archaeology

The Castello di Formigine houses the Museo archeologico-multimediale. The Museo del castello di Formigine is organised around the narrative coordinates of time and space. Together with the archaeological area in the castle park, it forms a visitor route. Archaeological investigations at the Castello di Formigine uncovered the ancient church of San Bartolomeo. The church provides a specific point of reference for archaeological interpretation, while the organisation by time and space offers a second framework. Admission to the Castello di Formigine is free; check the latest visitor information before your visit.

Historic Architecture and Parks

Madonna del Ponte was built in 1510 as a simple votive oratory and contains an ancient 14th-century wall fresco. The fresco therefore predates the oratory in which it was incorporated. Villa Gandini is an exceptional example of Modenese Neoclassicism. It still houses paintings, bas-reliefs and decorations created by leading figures in the architectural and artistic movements of the time.

The historic garden of Villa Gandini is part of the larger Parco della Resistenza. It is home to monumental trees, including two Ginkgo biloba. Unlike this garden, the Parco Archeologico del Castello is a green space within the walls of the Castello di Formigine. The two parks therefore differ both in their setting and in their relationship to the historic buildings.

Events and Town Festival

The Castello di Formigine hosts numerous events every year. Settembre Formiginese is a recurring town festival with a history spanning more than half a century; in 2026, the municipality announced its 55th edition. If you want to plan your trip around a festival, check the dates for the relevant edition before making plans.

Cycling and Nature Trails

The Ciclovia del Mito passes through Formigine as an approximately 21-kilometre cycling route between the Museo Enzo Ferrari in Modena and the Museo Ferrari in Maranello. The section in Formigine is about seven kilometres long. When planning, it is useful to distinguish between the full route and its shorter section in town. The nature trail along the Torrente Tiepido is an ecological corridor that stretches for 1.5 kilometres through the Formigine area. The routes thus differ both in length and in theme: a cycling connection between two museums and a nature trail.

Acetaia Comunale

The Acetaia Comunale Francesco Aggazzotti is located in the attic of Villa Benvenuti. This specific location is another cultural attraction to consider when choosing the focus of your trip.
