Discover Le Tagliole
Accommodation in Le Tagliole
Le Tagliole lies in the upper Valle delle Tagliole in the Parco regionale del Frignano. The valley is bordered to the south by Monte Giovo and Monte Rondinaio, to the east by Monte Modino, and to the west by Monte Nuda. The Valle delle Tagliole is also designated a geosite of local significance. The mountain names provide a sense of place, while the geosite designation highlights the valley’s geological character. The trails, in turn, can be identified by their names, a stated starting point, or the return route to the car park.
Hiking trails and their reference points
The CAI 535MO Tagliole–Roncoglione trail passes through Le Tagliole; the CAI 533MO Tagliole–Monte Nuda trail also runs through the village. The Chiese e Briganti trail of the Sentieri della Rosa Canina reaches Tagliole; it starts at the sports field in Le Tagliole, on the municipal road to Lago Santo. On the circular hike to Casa Paretto, the CAI 535 trail leads back to the car park in Le Tagliole in about 3 km. The approximately 3 km refers to the route back to the car park as part of this circular hike, not to the entire circuit. These trails offer different points of reference: named destinations for the CAI trails, a starting point for Chiese e Briganti, and a return route to the car park for the loop to Casa Paretto.
Via dei Remi and local tradition
A trace of the Via dei Remi has been preserved at Casolare Pian dei Remi. The route existed from 1625 to 1791 and was used to supply timber for the arsenals of Pisa and Livorno. Thus, both a time period and a specific purpose are given for this cultural heritage site. The ruins of Cà di Rilla also lie along a route starting from Le Tagliole. A local legend associates them with the bandit Rilla. The two cultural traces can be understood in different ways: the Via dei Remi is chiefly associated with its period of use and timber supply, while Cà di Rilla is linked to local tradition.
Nature trail and geosites
Le Antiche Orme focuses on natural history. The nature trail runs along the road to Lago Santo; its interpretive stations help visitors identify traces left by the main animal species in the Parco dell'Alto Appennino. Here, the focus is on animal tracks and identifying them, unlike the historical traces of the Via dei Remi and the legend of Cà di Rilla. In February 2025, tourist visitor routes to the geosites in the upper Valle delle Tagliole were also fitted with signs. The geosite designation applies to the valley; the signs, by contrast, are for tourist routes to the geosites.
If you are looking for hotels for a trip to Le Tagliole, you can decide in advance which themes matter most to you: hiking trails and the valley, the history of the Via dei Remi, or nature interpretation at Le Antiche Orme. This can help you tailor the focus of your trip to your interests.
