Scurano: Routes to Cascata della Grondara
Accommodation in Scurano
Routes to the Cascata and around Lago di Scurano
A walk of less than 1.5 kilometres leads from the ancient Pieve di Scurano to Cascata della Grondara. The final section runs through the forest. Another route to the waterfall is the Parchi del Ducato’s “Percorso Natura” loop. The information describes different routes: the walk from the Pieve is shorter than the loop. Check current information about access from the Pieve before your visit.
The “Percorso Natura” starts at the Monte Fuso Info Point, is 15.15 kilometres long and has an elevation gain of 420 metres. As a cycling loop, it runs along Lago di Scurano and also reaches Cascata della Grondara. The final section to the waterfall must be completed on foot. The lake is home to lush aquatic plants and various bird species. The distance and elevation gain give you concrete points of reference for assessing the scope of the loop.
A marked CAI hiking trail network is called “I SENTIERI DEL MONTE FUSO”. Along the way, the routes draw attention to natural and historical features. In addition to the cycling loop, the trail network therefore offers a separate way to notice these features along the route.
Nature and activities at Monte Fuso
The Centro Faunistico Monte Fuso covers 45 hectares. Of this area, 75 percent consists of mixed deciduous forest and 25 percent of permanent, species-rich grassland. More than 100 ungulates live at the Centro, including red deer, fallow deer and mouflons. The land-use proportions and the animal species listed describe two different aspects of the area: its landscape and its wildlife. The forest area is therefore three times as large as the grassland area.
The Centro offers orienteering activities for beginners, as well as group training sessions for young people and adults; non-competitive runs are also available. Advance booking is required for these activities. Introductory archery sessions are run by the centre’s own staff. These activities are also available by advance booking only.
Facilities at the Centro Faunistico
Facilities include a visitor centre with an information office, a café-restaurant, an equipped campervan parking area, a children’s playground and a picnic area. There is also a classroom and a conference room. A free electric scooter service is available for people with motor disabilities. The facilities include both visitor services and rooms for classes and conferences.
Historic architectural features in Pozzuolo di Scurano
Bastia Fattori in Pozzuolo di Scurano is a privately owned historic building complex. It comprises two tower houses, a loggia and agricultural outbuildings. The buildings are arranged around a courtyard, with a well in the centre. The courtyard is thus the central feature of the ensemble, while the tower houses, loggia and outbuildings together make up the complex.
