Those planning a stay around cycling and local cultural heritage can explore Cannuzzo through two themes: the Parco fluviale di Cannuzzo on the Savio and the places associated with Tolmino Baldassari. The river park was designed as a recreational area and as a cycling link between the coast of Cervia and the hills of Cesena. Culture can be found in poetic installations, a house museum, and churches with artistic and architectural features. When looking for a hotel for a trip to Cannuzzo, these interests can help you choose a destination that suits your plans.

River Park and Paths along the Savio

The Parco fluviale di Cannuzzo was created through a project to restore and enhance the floodplains of the Savio River. All park entrances are on Via Salara provinciale and are marked with explanatory stone totems. The park also has a shaded rest area with tables, benches, and barbecue facilities. Alongside its role as a cycling link, the combination of paths, signposts, and a rest area gives the river park its own recreational character.

The Savio walking and cycling path follows the river embankment for approximately 7 km and passes through the surrounding countryside and the rural village of Castiglione. At an entrance near the Santuario della Madonna degli Angeli, you can park outside the park and continue on foot or by bicycle along a riverside path to Castiglione. The approximate distance and named destination provide useful reference points if you would like to include a cycling or walking route in your travel plans.

Tolmino Baldassari and Literary Sites

Tolmino Baldassari lived between Castiglione di Cervia and Cannuzzo; the Savio River was a source of inspiration for him for many years. In the Parco fluviale di Cannuzzo, six poetic benches feature verses from his poems, in dialect and also in Italian. The poems in two language versions are thus part of the park. The Casa Museo di Tolmino Baldassari is in Cannuzzo di Cervia, right next to the Parco fluviale del Savio. The Associazione Tolmino Baldassari, which is active today, is based in the poet’s former home and works to promote and enhance knowledge of his life and work.

Churches and Architectural History

The Santuario della Madonna degli Angeli is particularly known for a magnificent 16th-century fresco depicting the Virgin Mary surrounded by angels. The sanctuary is a typical 17th-century church: its floor plan is shaped like a Latin cross, and its interior has a single nave and two side chapels. The Chiesa di Santa Maria degli Angeli in Cannuzzo di Cervia dates from the early 17th century and was described by Baldassari in one of his books. The fresco, floor plan, and literary reference offer different ways to explore the area’s cultural history.

Your travel decision can therefore focus on two options: the approximately 7 km walking and cycling path along the Savio to Castiglione, and the literary and religious sites. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to Cannuzzo, you can consider whether you want to follow the route, explore the cultural attractions, or combine both.
