Gaida offers several distinct points of interest for a stay: the historic center along Via Emilia, Parco di Gaida at the intersection with Via Casel di Ferro, remembrance culture, and routes through Gaida and Cadè. There are also traces of early settlement and a connection to the production of traditional DOP balsamic vinegar. Depending on whether you are interested in local history, routes or culinary themes, you can tailor your plans to suit your trip.

Historic Center and Parco di Gaida

The historic center developed along Via Emilia. Parco di Gaida is located at the intersection of this road and Via Casel di Ferro and covers 5,900 m². The park includes a children’s play area. Two distinct local landmarks are therefore central to getting your bearings: the development of the historic center along Via Emilia and the park’s location at the intersection of two roads.

Historical Traces in Gaida

Gaida was already inhabited in the Bronze Age; finds discovered locally attest to this early settlement. Another point of reference is the year 1230: a document from that year mentions the original church of San Giuliano Martire. The distinctive historic center and the ancient Magnani estate are among Gaida’s historical and architectural features. Archaeological traces, a dated reference to the church, and distinctive features of the town and its buildings thus sit side by side. If you are interested in the town’s history, the Bronze Age and 1230 provide two clearly distinct points of reference in time.

Commemorating the Martyrs of Gaida and Cadè

On February 9, 1945, 21 young people were victims of Nazi-Fascist reprisals in Cadè and Gaida. A commemorative ceremony held annually in February is dedicated to the Martyrs of Gaida and Cadè. The historical reference therefore encompasses both places. If you would like to include the ceremony in your travel plans, check the specific date in advance.

Circular Route, Cycling Connection and Public Transport

The Canaletto dei Canonici circular route passes through the inhabited areas of Gaida and Cadè. A cycle path along Via Emilia connects Gaida with Calerno di Sant'Ilario and Cadè. The two connections differ both in type and in the places they link: the Canaletto dei Canonici is a circular route through Gaida and Cadè, while the cycle connection runs along Via Emilia and also connects Gaida with Calerno di Sant'Ilario.

Gaida is also served by urban public transport line 2 on the Rubiera–S. Ilario route. The service on this section runs infrequently. If you plan to use it, check the timetable for your travel dates.

Balsamic Vinegar and Visits

Tenuta La Rampata is home to an acetaia where traditional Reggio Emilia balsamic vinegar with Protected Designation of Origin (DOP) status is produced. Medici Ermete & Figli offers something different: visits and tastings are available by prior reservation at Via Newton 13/a in Gaida. These two details offer different ways to explore culinary themes: Tenuta La Rampata is associated with the production of traditional DOP balsamic vinegar, while Medici Ermete & Figli offers visits and tastings that require advance booking. Remember to make the required reservation when planning your visit.
