Ramiseto brings together a historic town center, mountain-area architectural styles, and trails in the Monte Ventasso area. This offers different points of focus when planning a stay: in town, the settlement layout and individual architectural details shape the view, while the landscape and sections of historic routes are important along the trails. Nearby Lago Calamone also offers two different walking routes: the access route from Ventasso Laghi and a short circular trail. These route details should be considered separately, as they do not describe the same route.

Townscape and Architectural History

The settlement of Ramiseto developed in tiers around the 13th-century Church of Saints Cipriano and Giustina. The historic town center preserves buildings in the typical mountain architectural style. The church and the stepped settlement layout give the town a tangible historical framework.

Ramiseto also features a distinctive raised defensive entrance to a residential area. The year 1495 is inscribed on its lintel. A niche facing the road to the Enza Valley contains a sacred image made of Apuan marble, dated 1775. Another architecturally significant building illustrates 15th-century architectural models used in the upper Reggio Apennines. The dates 1495 and 1775 refer to two different details: the lintel and the sacred image.

Churches and Historic Routes

The hamlet of Miscoso is also home to a church with its own historical significance: San Giacomo dates from the 17th century. Two separate associations should be distinguished: the Church of Saints Cipriano and Giustina is connected with the development of the Ramiseto settlement; San Giacomo is in Miscoso.

The Monte Ventasso hiking route partly follows the ancient Via Parmesana. This was a historic ducal boundary between Ramiseto and Collagna. Along part of the hiking route, a present-day trail thus coincides with an area that once served a territorial function.

Landscape and Trails Around Lago Calamone

Only part of the Monte Ventasso area lies within the Appennino Tosco-Emiliano National Park. Extensive beech forests and largely abandoned chestnut groves shape the area. Near the summit, grassland and blueberry stands alternate with rocky outcrops where rare rock-dwelling vegetation grows. The transition between forest and more open areas near the summit reveals the area's varied landscapes.

Lago Calamone is about 10 km from Ramiseto. The drive follows the SP 102 to the village of Ventasso Laghi; from there, it takes about 15 minutes on foot along an uphill forest road to reach the lake. The Percorso Natura Lago Calamone is a separate route: an easy circular trail of less than 3 km that is also suitable for strollers. These details answer different planning questions: the approximate walking time refers to the access route from Ventasso Laghi, while the distance refers to the circular trail.

Another route passes by Parco della Flora: the Percorso Valle dei Cavalieri. The park has a well-equipped picnic area and a network of marked trails for a short walk. In addition to the circular trail at Lago Calamone, a picnic area and marked trails therefore offer practical points of reference for planning.

Getting Here and Choosing the Focus of Your Stay

From Reggio Emilia, you can reach Ramiseto via the SS 63 to the turnoff for Ramiseto, then continue along the SP 15. When planning, you can consider the town's history and the excursions separately: in the historic center, the settlement layout and architectural history take center stage; when it comes to trails, it is useful to distinguish between the historic Via Parmesana, the access route to Lago Calamone, and the circular trail there. If you are planning excursions, the named roads and trail sections can help you identify the focus of each part of your stay.
