In Azzano Decimo, you can make cultural traces and nature the focus of your trip. The parish church of San Pietro and its bell tower, the Oratorio di Santa Croce, a wayside shrine on Via Zuiano and Villa Cappellari della Colomba offer different architectural and artistic highlights. Bosco della Mantova and Laghetti di Cesena draw attention to woodland and wetlands. The aspects that interest you most can shape your focus: architectural history, art, outdoor activities or a combination of these themes.

Culture between architectural history and art

The parish church of San Pietro was built in the second half of the 18th century. Next to the Chiesa Parrocchiale di San Pietro stands a 76-metre-high bell tower. This offers two different aspects to explore: the period when the church was built and the height of the neighbouring tower. If you are interested in architecture, this specific measurement complements the church building’s historical context.

The wall paintings are the focus at the Oratorio di Santa Croce: they date from the 16th century. The wayside shrine on Via Zuiano reaches further back in time. It was created at the end of the 15th century by a follower of Bellunello. These dates span the period from the late 15th century to the second half of the 18th century. The works also differ in form: here, paintings in an oratory; there, a wayside shrine with a specific artistic attribution.

Villa Cappellari della Colomba raises a different architectural question. Its exterior staircase leads to the piano nobile, also known as the noble floor. The term refers to a building’s principal, representational floor. At the villa, the focus is therefore on the connection between the staircase and the interior, while at the parish church it is primarily the construction period and at the Oratorio, the surviving paintings. The cultural sites thus appeal to different interests without all telling the same story about a building’s history.

Woodland, wetlands and outdoor activities

Bosco della Mantova is considered an oasis of unspoilt nature. You can go hiking, enjoy leisurely walks and take mountain bike tours there. You can choose activities based on how you want to get around: on foot or on a mountain bike tour. The Bosco also contains traces of prehistoric settlements. Alongside nature and exercise, this adds an archaeological dimension: the traces point to the woodland’s early settlement history.

At Laghetti di Cesena, the focus is on the wetlands. Typical wetland vegetation, as well as fish, amphibians and birds, are part of this natural environment. Its designation as an avifauna oasis draws particular attention to birdlife; fish and amphibians are also part of the area’s natural landscape. There are paths and short routes along the banks. This offers different points of interest from those at the Bosco: wetland vegetation and wildlife, as well as the opportunity to explore the banks on foot.

Laghetti di Cesena is also especially popular with sport anglers. If you would like to include fishing in your travel plans, check in advance what fishing opportunities are available locally. This allows you to tailor your focus on nature to your interests: walks and paths, wildlife and plant life, or fishing.

A monument in the main town

Another historical landmark is the monument to those who fell in the First World War, on Piazza LibertĂ  in the main town of Azzano Decimo. It complements the religious and artistic heritage with a monument that has its own historical significance. If you plan a specific visit, check the local conditions in advance.
