For a trip to Budoia, nature, trails and cultural sites can be considered as different areas of interest. If you are looking for a hotel in Budoia, this distinction can help with your planning: you can first decide whether you prefer short walks, nature trails, historic sites or a cycling tour. The trails vary in length and elevation gain; cultural sites range from a permanent exhibition to a fortress site and a fresco.

Nature and green spaces

In the Cunath Gorge, pools and waterfalls form beneath high rock walls. This makes the gorge a different kind of natural attraction from the trails described in the Colli di Santa Lucia. If you would rather focus on a gorge landscape than a trail when planning your trip, Cunath is a distinct option.

At the entrance to the Val de Croda lies the Ciampore area, a large green space with a car park, outdoor play facilities, barbecue areas and toilets. This makes it different from a trail described mainly in terms of length and elevation gain: here, the green space and the listed amenities are the main features.

Trails with different profiles

The Sentiero naturalistico Troi de Gor is a 2 km nature trail in the Colli di Santa Lucia, with a low difficulty level. At 2.5 km, the Sentiero naturalistico San Tomè is slightly longer and has an elevation gain of 200 m, while also being rated as easy. It runs through the valley of the Torrente Artugna from Dardago to San Tomè. When choosing between these two trails, you can compare their length and elevation gain: the Troi de Gor is shorter, while the 200 m elevation gain is an additional part of the San Tomè trail profile.

The trail from Ciampore to the Fortezza del Ciastelat is considerably shorter: it is 1 km long, has an elevation gain of 70 m, is rated as easy and takes ten minutes to complete. Together, the three routes offer different scales for planning a walk—from the short trail to the fortress, through the Troi de Gor, to the longer trail to San Tomè.

Cultural sites and history

The Museo del Fungo is a permanent exhibition in Budoia’s renovated former dairy. The archaeological site of the Fortezza del Ciastelat preserves the remains of a fortress dating from the 10th century AD. The first structure of the Chiesetta di Santa Lucia in Colle dates from the 13th century. These sites offer different historical perspectives: an exhibition in a former functional building, the remains of a fortress and the history of a chapel.

A fresco in the Chiesetta di Santa Lucia in Colle was discovered during restoration work in 1987 and attributed to Gianfrancesco da Tolmezzo. The chapel can be reached from Budoia via a well-maintained forest trail. The Sentiero del Ruial follows an old water channel built from hewn stone in the 17th century. This trail can therefore also be viewed in terms of historic structures.

The Festa dei Funghi e dell’Ambiente has been held in Budoia for almost 50 years; the festival includes the regional mycological exhibition. If you would like to tie your trip in with this event, check the event dates in advance.

A cycling tour with a return by train

Another option is a 15.4 km cycling tour from Budoia-Polcenigo station to Sacile. It follows the Ciclovia del Livenza (FVG 7) for almost its entire length and includes a return journey by train from Sacile. This makes the tour different from the walking trails described above in terms of how you travel: the starting point, route and return journey are all part of a cycling-and-train plan.
