Discover Anduins
Accommodation in Anduins
Anduins is a destination for travelers who want to include hiking routes and local history in their plans. The marked trails vary in length, elevation gain, and difficulty rating. The landscape of Mont di Anduins and historical landmarks at the Madonna della Neve Chapel and Santa Margherita Church are also part of the picture.
Mont di Anduins and historic trails
Mont di Anduins is a wooded, hilly plateau above Anduins. A paved road connects it to the town center. The historic Strada Regina Margherita was built in 1891 to connect Pielungo and Anduins with the plain. It represents an early transport link between the towns and the plain.
The cobbled Clapadoria mule track also leads from Anduins to the Mont. It was laid out in the first postwar period; a memorial stone along the trail commemorates its completion in 1922. The road and mule track mark different chapters in the region’s transport history.
Hiking routes and climbing
The “Anello della Mont di Anduins” loop is classified as a moderate E hiking route. It is 8.6 kilometers long and has 530 meters of elevation gain. The route from Anduins to Fruinz via the Sentiero del Clapeit is longer, at 10.5 kilometers, and has more elevation gain, at 780 meters. It is classified as an EE hiking route for experienced hikers. This makes it possible to compare the two routes based on specific differences in distance, ascent, and classification. Trail conditions may change; check them before setting out.
The “Troi dai Asìns” high-altitude trail connects the Madonna della Neve Chapel with the “Somp Čuc” viewpoint. Another route description goes through the narrow Clapeit Gorge and then descends to the forecourt of Anduins Church.
For climbers, the south-facing Falesia di Anduins offers seasonal guidance: climbing there is suitable even in winter. In summer, the shaded sectors are recommended in the afternoon. This guidance is based on local conditions.
The chapel, church, and local history
The people of Anduins built the Madonna della Neve Chapel after the Second World War to fulfill a vow they had made in 1944. The “Troi dai Asìns” high-altitude trail connects the chapel with the Somp Čuc viewpoint. The chapel hosts the “Fiesta di Mont” festival every year on the first weekend of August.
At Santa Margherita Church, an inscription on the entrance portal of the bell tower commemorates the year 1843: “A.D. 1843” is engraved there. Together with the history of the chapel, this detail provides a specific link to the architectural and local history of Anduins.
Sulfur springs and tourism history
Anduins’ sulfur springs have been used for their therapeutic properties since the 15th century. Hydrotherapy and balneotherapy at the Fonti Solforose contributed to the development of tourism; in the 1920s, Anduins became a tourist destination. This historic connection between the springs and tourism adds another perspective on the town alongside its trail and architectural history.
