Percoto can be explored through several specific themes: the development of the parish of San Martino Vescovo, Villa Frattina-Caiselli, a route that uses a historic building as a landmark, and the Nonino family’s grappa history. This gives you different focal points for planning your trip. You can, for example, focus on the history of sacred architecture, architecture, a tour booked in advance, or the production of a particular grappa. These themes raise specific historical and practical questions that can help you decide where to stay in Percoto.

San Martino Vescovo: the parish and present-day church

The parish of San Martino Vescovo was founded around 1500, after separating from the Pieve di Buttrio. The present-day church is a separate matter: it was founded around 1700 and consecrated in 1751. These dates refer to different stages and should not be combined into a single foundation date. If you are interested in sacred history, you can trace the time between the establishment of the parish and that of the present-day church. The 1751 consecration adds another precisely dated stage to this development. This makes it possible to place the parish, present-day church, and consecration in their proper sequence.

Villa Frattina-Caiselli in the town center

Villa Frattina-Caiselli, built by the Frattina family in the 17th century, is located in the center of Percoto. Its park is open to the public. The villa’s furnishings also have a clearly documented history: most of the original furnishings have been preserved in the central hall. The Caiselli commissioned them, and they were created by Guarana and Antonio Carneo. The villa’s history thus includes two distinct contributions: the Frattina family built the house, while the Caiselli commissioned its furnishings. This distinction helps separate the building’s history from the preserved hall and its furnishings. The public park and the richly decorated hall are different aspects of the same villa.

Route and historic building

The “10 Thousand Steps of Health” route runs from Pavia di Udine to Percoto along a local unpaved path. In its section through Percoto, it lists Casa Colombare, known as a 15th-century house, as a building worth seeing. The route section therefore includes both a specific description of the path and a link to the town’s architectural history. Casa Colombare is highlighted as a building along this section. Check the current route before including it in your plans.

Nonino: tours and grappa history

The Nonino Distilleries in Percoto offer tours by prior reservation. If you would like to include a tour in your stay, make sure to book in advance. The company’s history also leads to Ronchi di Percoto, where Orazio Nonino established the headquarters of his distillery. A product-related milestone with a precise date is December 1, 1973: on that day, Giannola and Benito Nonino created the varietal grappa Monovitigno® Grappa Nonino by distilling the pomace from Picolit grapes separately. This date relates to that specific product development. The distillery headquarters in Ronchi di Percoto and the creation of this grappa are therefore distinct points of reference in the Nonino story.
