Discover Savorgnano Del Torre
Accommodation in Savorgnano Del Torre
Local attractions range from a strategic fortress to a fortified villa, a parish church and events along routes through hills, meadows and forests. This makes it possible to choose a destination based on specific interests, without conflating historic buildings with event dates.
Landscape along the Torre
The ruins of Castello della Motta lie in dense woodland on the summit at the southwestern end of a ridge, near the confluence of two waterways. The site was established no later than the end of the 7th century AD as a strategic fortress to control the course of the Torre. Its location and purpose complement each other: the ridge defines the site, while the Torre was central to its strategic function. The site can be reached on foot, though with some difficulty; bear this in mind if you plan to visit the ruins.
On the bank of the Torrente Torre, near a bridge, lies Parco del Torre di Savorgnano. From there, you can enjoy views of the forests and vineyards in the surrounding hills. The park also has a multi-purpose facility for events. In contrast to the castle, distinguished by its location on a wooded ridge and its strategic history, the park’s main features are its riverside setting, scenic views and event facility.
Villa Savorgnan and San Michele
The fortified Villa Savorgnan was built by the Savorgnan della Bandiera in the 15th or 16th century. It served as the administrative seat of a powerful fief whose jurisdiction extended over the waters of the Roggia Cividina. The complex also includes a noble chapel dedicated to the Santissima Annunziata. The villa thus adds to the castle’s history a later fortified residence with an administrative function and a religious component.
San Michele is the present-day parish church of Savorgnano and preserves important works by local painter Luigi Martinis. The foundation stone of the new church was laid on January 19, 1905; it was solemnly consecrated on December 20, 1910. The two dates mark distinct stages in its building history, while Martinis’s works provide an artistic connection to the community.
Magnalonga and Marcia Verde
The Magnalonga is a culinary walk through meadows and hills. At the tasting stops, Friulian products and wines from producers in Savorgnano are offered. The event has been organized since 2006; dates and arrangements may vary.
The Marcia Verde has a different focus: it is a non-competitive walk of about ten kilometers through the hills, forests and roads of Savorgnano, and a long-standing spring event. Tastings are part of the Magnalonga walk; for the Marcia Verde, the approximate distance and non-competitive format are useful points of reference. Check the dates and arrangements for both events if you would like to plan your stay around one of them.
