Lischiazze: Trails, Waterfall and Nature
Accommodation in Lischiazze
For a stay in Lischiazze, hiking, the waterscape and traditional cuisine can each be considered as a different focus. An old connecting trail between the hamlet and the valley floor, other trail routes and the Fontanone Barman waterfall provide concrete points of reference for planning. There is also a path through tall beech forests and a climbing route.
Trails and stages
The “Itinerario Lischiazze – Torrente Barman – Gost” is an old connecting trail between the hamlet and the valley floor. “Ta Stara Pot” follows a different route: the trail passes through the hamlet of Gost and then descends to Lischiazze. The Itinerario focuses on the connection to the valley floor; Ta Stara Pot can be identified by its Gost–Lischiazze sequence and descent. This lets you distinguish the two trails by their respective routes.
The “Way of the Ancient Glaciers” offers stages with different durations and distances. From Gniva, the trail reaches Lischiazze in about 30 minutes. From Lischiazze, it continues for around 4 km and 1.5 hours to Sella Carnizza. Both time estimates are approximate and depend on walking conditions. For planning, you can distinguish the stage to Lischiazze from the section to Sella and compare the time estimates with the walking time you have available.
Beyond Lischiazze, you can leave your vehicle in a parking area; CAI trail no. 703 begins there and heads toward the Rio Nero valley. The continuation of the trail provides access to Fontanone Barman. This allows you to include this access point in your considerations of trails and nature destinations without conflating the different sections of the route.
Fontanone Barman and the Rio
The Fontanone Barman waterfall plunges about 70 m into a blue pool scoured into the rock. The Rio Barman rises at this waterfall, then flows through a narrow valley toward the Resia River. The waterfall, pool and course of the river offer different aspects of this nature destination: the drop defines the waterfall, while the Rio Barman’s subsequent course describes its connection through the valley to the Resia. If you would like to consider the waterscape as well as trails on your trip, this sequence offers a distinct focus.
Forest, cuisine and climbing
The “Sentiero del gusto” follows the municipal road toward Lischiazze and passes through tall beech forests. The trail’s theme includes forest products such as mushrooms, fruit and wild herbs, which enrich traditional cuisine. This focus differs from the stage details for the “Way of the Ancient Glaciers”: here, the forest and culinary tradition take center stage, while there, two sections can be distinguished by time and distance.
Another activity is the Via Alberto Colavizza climbing route. It runs for almost 400 m over solid rock and consists mostly of slab climbing; appropriate experience is required. This requirement is a factor in deciding whether the route suits your travel plans. It is a distinct focus alongside the walking trails and nature destinations described above.
The “Ricovero Casera Rio Nero” is a two-storey mountain refuge that is currently always open and has several sleeping places and a wood-burning stove. Together with the trails and nature destinations, it offers a selection of different points of reference for planning your stay in Lischiazze.
