Sutrio combines a historic centre with traditional woodworking and the mountain landscape of Mount Zoncolan. It also offers seasonal exhibitions and an experiential trail that brings together tradition, nature and animals. If you are looking for a hotel in Sutrio, these different themes can help you decide what to focus on during your trip: the townscape and crafts on the one hand, and trails and experiences in the Mount Zoncolan area on the other.

Historic Centre and Woodworking

The historic centre consists of narrow cobbled lanes and traditional stone houses. Sutrio’s long tradition of woodworking has been passed down through generations. The centre is home to carving and sculpture workshops, among the best-known in the region. The town’s architecture and its inherited crafts are distinct facets of Sutrio.

The Teno Nativity Scene depicts local life and is designed as a small ethnographic museum. While the carving and sculpture workshops showcase the crafts, the nativity scene focuses on a portrayal of life in Sutrio. This combination of craftsmanship and local life offers a distinctive cultural focus for your trip.

Mountain Landscape and Trails on Mount Zoncolan

Mount Zoncolan rises to over 1,900 metres at the summit of Cima Tamai. Its slopes are covered with dense forests, alpine meadows and mountain pastures. The mountain has trekking routes, leisurely walking trails and cycling routes for different fitness levels. A leisurely walk, a trekking route and a bike ride offer different ways to experience the mountain landscape.

In summer, the road from Sutrio to Mount Zoncolan, at an altitude of 1,750 metres, is suitable for easy hikes and especially scenic walks. Several trekking routes lead to nearby peaks, including Mount Tamai at 2,000 metres.

Seasonal Exhibitions and Experiences

The annual “Magic of Wood” exhibition takes place on the first weekend of September; the programme may vary from year to year. A travelling exhibition of handmade nativity scenes winds through the characteristic districts of Sutrio, passing through courtyards, arcades and cellars in traditional houses. It includes more than 20 stops in Sutrio, Priola and Nojaris. At each stop, there is something to smell, touch, taste and see. The exact dates of the nativity scene exhibition vary from year to year.

In the Mount Zoncolan area, the Fattoria Diffusa experience takes visitors through the municipalities of Paluzza, Ravascletto and Sutrio, offering direct contact with tradition, nature and animals. As part of the experience, visitors can sample agricultural and regional food products.

You can buy Visit Zoncolan excursions online or at the Visit Zoncolan information point in Sutrio. If you plan to use this service, confirm the current arrangements before your arrival.
