Taipana: Hiking, Nature and Culture
Accommodation in Taipana
Taipana offers several distinct ways to spend your stay: circular hiking routes, a route shared by cyclists and hikers, mountain biking options, and cultural sites. When choosing your activities, it helps to consider these areas separately. Would you like to explore a signposted circular route on foot, enjoy the scenery along the way, or focus on a cultural theme? The paths and sites range from views of Monte Matajur to the history of everyday rural life.
Compare Hiking Routes and Landscapes
The signposted “Anello di Zore” circular route is shared by cyclists and hikers. Its scenic features include views of Monte Matajur. There is a large car park for this route at Taipana’s sports facilities. The shared use of the path and the views are two specific features you can take into account when planning your visit.
The “Anello Sorgenti del Cornappo” circular route is classified as a moderate hike. It offers views of the first stretch of the Rio Cornappo, with small waterfalls, forests and scree slopes, as well as clear water flowing down from Gran Monte. There is a small car park at the entrance to Tanaiauarie. Compared with the Zore circular route, the Cornappo route has a specified difficulty rating and several described landscape features; shared use of the path and views of Matajur are the defining points of the Zore route. Check trail conditions before setting out.
Another natural highlight is the Cascata della Certenja: the waterfall is eight metres high and has a small pool at its base. A path descends there from Tanaiauarie; at a fork, take the left branch to reach the waterfall. Trail conditions can change, so check them before your visit.
The “Parco comunale Gran Monte e sorgenti del Natisone” intermunicipal park also offers a broader landscape to explore. The regional description, last updated on 11 January 2024, lists Taipana as one of the municipalities concerned and gives the total area as 3,528.98 hectares. The same regional description, last updated on 11 January 2024, states that the park partly covers the Natura 2000 ZSC site IT3320017 Rio Bianco di Taipana e Gran Monte and partly the ZPS site IT3321002 Alpi Giulie.
Mountain Biking in Taipana
The Taipana Trail Zone includes 13.5 kilometres of gravity trails. It also features a jump area with a big air jump. The Spin8 trail is suitable for cross-country and downhill riding. These details describe different features: downhill trails, a jump area, and a trail where both cross-country and downhill riding are possible. When planning your trip, you can first consider which type of mountain biking is your priority, without treating the options as interchangeable.
Museum, Bridge and Local Everyday Culture
The “Testimonianze della civiltà contadina” museum is housed in the parish house in the village of Prossenicco. Its extensive exhibition displays everyday objects from rural life. It also features a valuable collection of Pust masks from the traditional Slovenian carnival. The two themes offer different insights: the objects represent rural everyday life, while the masks put the carnival in the spotlight.
Below Montemaggiore, towards the sources of the Rio Bianco, stands the ancient Roman bridge of Montemaggiore, a stone structure. The path from the bridge to Prossenicco crosses the Cammino Celeste, which passes through this part of the Friulian Slavia. This allows you to include both a historic site and a specific route connection in your travel plans.
Azienda Agricola Zore also offers a glimpse into local production: milk is made by hand into cheese and other dairy products in the farm’s own dairy. The farm also has a farm shop. Before visiting, check whether access is currently possible.
