The places and activities have different focuses—from individual works of art and finds relating to everyday Picene life to a circular route and event dates.

Church Art and Picene Finds

The Chiesa dell’Annunziata houses both the Museo civico di arte sacra and the Antiquarium Comunale “Niccola Pansoni”. The Museum of Sacred Art features a fresco dated 1530 depicting a “Deposizione dalla Croce”. It is attributed either to Cola dell’Amatrice or to the master Giacomo Bonfini da Patrignone. The church’s most valuable painting is considered to be a 2.25 × 1.70-metre altarpiece by Vincenzo Pagani (around 1490–1568). It depicts Saint Anthony the Great, Saint Anthony of Padua and Saint Job.

The Antiquarium is housed in a room in the church and is dedicated to the Picenes. Its finds illustrate aspects of daily life—from food and clothing to domestic activities and warfare. They include kitchen pottery, ornaments, jewellery, tools and weapons. Reconstruction drawings and information panels in Italian and English supplement the collection. Sacred paintings and objects illustrating different aspects of life at the time are presented as distinct themes.

The Archivio Storico Comunale offers another historical perspective. It preserves documents dating from 1373 to 1983, including the original manuscript of the municipal statutes of 1581. Works of art, archaeological finds and archival documents each offer a different way to explore the history of the town.

Castle Walls and Green Spaces

Cossignano’s medieval castle walls date from the period after it gained municipal autonomy in 1291. Pointed arches distinguish the oldest and best-preserved sections. The Porta di Levante, also known as the Porta del Burgo and Porta di S. Giorgio, is the most important and best-preserved remnant of the former castle wall. Its names and surviving section of wall make it a specific point to visit if you are interested in the history of the fortifications.

Parco da Sole lies at the foot of the southern town wall. Belvedere di Ponente was created as a new green space beside Piazzale Europa. These places offer two more named points to explore: one is explicitly associated with the southern wall, the other with Piazzale Europa.

Nature Trail and Events

The Le Cese nature trail passes through farmland and wooded areas. A connection halfway along the route allows you to take a shorter 5.3-kilometre loop. Around 80 per cent of the route is unpaved; signs following CAI conventions are posted in both directions. The length, proportion of unpaved surface and signage give you specific details to consider when planning this walk.

The medieval Festa “Cossignano, castellum Martis” features costumed historical groups, flag-throwers, drummers, dances, medieval games and fireworks in the historic centre. The Cossignano Medioevo Festival is always held between late July and early August and includes two traditional components. The Festa e Fiera di San Giorgio celebrates the feast of Saint George, the patron saint, on 23 April. Its closing events on 25 April include a fair with numerous exhibitors and sections devoted to horticulture, local food and handicrafts. If you would like to plan your trip around an event, check the specific date in advance.

The Sagra del “fritto misto all’ascolana” also offers its own culinary focus. Dishes served include stuffed olives, cremini, fried onions, mushrooms, courgettes and pieces of turkey. They are accompanied by wines from local producers made with indigenous grape varieties in the DOCG, DOC and IGT categories, as well as dry biscuits from local bakeries. This also lets you distinguish between the festival offerings according to whether you are more interested in history, performances or regional food.
