Discover Magliano di Tenna
Accommodation in Magliano di Tenna
Magliano di Tenna brings together a medieval town center, church art, remnants of fortifications, and rural culture. Much of the ring wall and two of the original six towers have survived. Other highlights include local festivals, a museum devoted to rural work, and sweeping views from the mountains to the sea. When looking for a hotel, you can decide whether historic architecture, the timing of an event, or the landscape will be the main reason for your trip.
Remnants of Fortifications and Historic Churches
Porta da Bora is an old fortified entrance to the castle of Magliano di Tenna; its original construction is dated to approximately the 13th century. Torre da Sole, also known as Torre del Sud, is the second surviving and still visible tower of the fortifications, alongside Porta da Bora. The Church of Madonna di Loreto is also one of the town’s sights.
The Church of San Gregorio Magno is in the old town and was built in the 18th century on the remains of an earlier Farfa settlement. It preserves a fresco from the late 15th century attributed to Vincenzo Pagani. The Church of Madonna delle Grazie incorporates a 15th-century votive chapel with frescoes attributed to Pierpalma da Fermo. The Church of San Filippo Neri preserves the tomb monument of the architect Giovanbattista Carducci. The sculptor Salomoni executed it in 1919 based on Carducci’s design.
Rural Culture and Event Dates
The Museo della CiviltĂ Contadina is located in the Torrione on Piazza Gramsci and offers insights into rural work and life in the countryside. It complements the churches and fortification remains with a different perspective on the town: here, everyday life and work in the countryside take center stage.
The events also offer different seasonal highlights. The patron saint’s festival, Festa del patrono, takes place every year around September 3, the feast day of Saint Gregory. The Giochi tra Contrade is a local summer event held from late June to late July and organized together with Magliano di Tenna’s six Contrade. The two events therefore take place at different times of year. If you would like to include a festival in your trip, check the exact date before booking.
Landscape and Local Produce
From the historic town center, views stretch over olive groves and vineyards from the mountains to the sea. Olive oil and honey are among the local products. The local food scene also includes vino cotto: a drink made from grape must that is cooked for a long time in copper cauldrons. These themes connect the landscape with regional products without implying a particular producer or the availability of tastings.
