Sampieri combines a wide beach with distinctive themes from its industrial and agricultural history. The coast, Fornace Penna and the Museo della Pietra offer different points of reference when choosing a destination. Seasonal offerings are also part of the town’s character and can be taken into account when planning a trip.

Beach and landscape

Sampieri’s beach stretches for more than 1,800 metres from the small harbour to Punta Pisciotto. It is sandy and slopes gently towards the sea. In recent years, the natural dunes behind the beach have been considered a suitable nesting site for loggerhead turtles. This activity is seasonal and may vary.

The Costa di Carro suburban park is located near Sampieri. It was established in an area of high natural significance associated with Natura 2000 sites or connecting routes between such sites. The Sampieri pine forest has water points, toilets, benches and tables for visitors. As facilities may change, check locally if needed.

Activities and practical planning

A cycle path connects Sampieri with Marina di Modica. If you include the route in your plans, check its condition in advance, as maintenance may vary. Sampieri also has a railway station. Timetables and service patterns may change, so check connections for your planned travel day.

Pedal boats, canoes and windsurfing equipment can be rented at Sampieri’s beach chalets. These seasonal offerings may change. If you are planning a specific activity, ask about current availability in advance. The beach also has courts for beach tennis and beach volleyball; these seasonal facilities may change as well.

Industrial history and local culture

Fornace Penna, a monument of industrial archaeology, stands on the headland of Punta Pisciotto. The complex produced bricks and roof tiles for Mediterranean markets, including Malta and Libya. Fornace Penna also served as a filming location for the television series “Il commissario Montalbano”; a scene was filmed among its ruins.

On 18 August 2026, work on the ancillary buildings was described as preparatory measures for the complex’s future public use. Check access conditions before visiting.

The Museo della Pietra offers a 45-minute tour of stone artefacts once used in local agriculture. The tour therefore has a different focus from Fornace Penna’s industrial history: it centres on objects from earlier agricultural use.

Until about ten years ago, Sampieri was a small fishing village. The centre is located on the Lungomare, with a network of paved lanes. The coastal landscape and the town’s history are distinct aspects of the destination.

Seasonal market

In summer, the Mercato Campagna Amica takes place every Thursday from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Via Miramare. Producers sell fresh agricultural produce and artisan products directly there, including sauces, passata, preserves, pâtés, jams and marmalades. As the market is seasonal and its offerings may change, check the dates before your visit.

For planning your time, you can compare a tour with a stated duration of 45 minutes and a seasonal market held on a set weekday during a fixed time slot. This makes it possible to plan the museum visit separately from the market, which is available only in summer.
