Antermoia at the foot of Pütia
Accommodation in Antermoia
Antermoia lies 1,515 metres above sea level at the foot of Pütia, a striking massif in the Dolomites. The mountain landscape, hiking routes and local history offer practical starting points for planning your trip. Two routes lead from Antermoia to Würzjoch; both are four kilometres long, but start at different places. The differences in starting point, ascent and time required can help you plan your days around your own priorities.
Mountain landscape and local highlights
The natural landscape around Börz at Würzjoch Pass lies at the entrance to Puez-Geisler Nature Park. On the outskirts of Antermoia, the traditional Valdander baths are located in a narrow, wooded gorge. About 100 metres from the baths, a mineral spring emerges from limestone of the Bellerophon Formation. Its alkaline, earthy water is locally considered invigorating and healing—a traditional description, not a medical recommendation. The connection between the spring and the limestone adds a specific natural-history aspect to the mountain setting.
Compare hikes to Würzjoch
A 4-kilometre hiking route leads from the craft zone in Antermoia to Würzjoch, with 500 metres of ascent and a journey time of about 1 hour and 45 minutes. The second route starts at the valley station of the ski lift, follows hiking trail no. 8 and passes through Fornela before reaching Würzjoch after another 4 kilometres. It involves 480 metres of ascent and takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes. The approximate times therefore differ by around 15 minutes, and the ascent by 20 metres. You can compare these time and elevation figures directly with your planned daily schedule.
Trails and seasonal activities
Hiking trail no. 8 begins opposite the church in Antermoia and leads to the bridge near Fidelis. For a circular route starting and ending in Antermoia, consider the route via Plaza, Plan Murin and Fidelis. It can be walked in both summer and winter; check seasonal conditions before setting out.
The route from Börz towards Antermoia has a different character depending on the season: in summer, it makes for a leisurely walk through the forests at the foot of Pütia. In winter, a toboggan run descends from Börz towards Antermoia. Check snow conditions before planning a tobogganing trip. Ski lifts in Antermoia provide access to alpine skiing in winter. You can also take the cross-country skiing facility around Börz into account when planning a winter trip; check in advance whether the lifts and facility are currently operating and what conditions apply.
Chapel and local history
The Chapel of Sant’Antonio Abate was once an important subsidiary church. An indulgence letter associated with it, dating from 1500, granted 100 days of indulgence for visiting the chapel on certain feast days, going to confession or making a donation. Historical documents also record the name forms “Undermoy” from 1263, “Antermoja” from 1482 and the Ladin form “Antermeja” from 1883 for Antermoia. The local history thus brings together religious practices from around 1500 and written forms of the name dating back several centuries.
