Antholz Mittertal lies at an altitude of 1,250 metres and is surrounded by the impressive mountain scenery of the Rieserferner Group. Walks, hikes, cycling tours and winter activities offer different ways to experience the place. If you are looking for a hotel in Antholz Mittertal, you can first consider whether trails, mountain scenery, winter sports or local history will shape your stay.

Hiking between Alpine pastures, forests and ridges

Antholz Mittertal is a starting point for walks, hikes to Alpine pastures, mountain tours and cycling trips along the cycle path to the entrance of the Antholz Valley. The Antholz Mittertal panoramic circular trail combines quiet forest and meadow paths with views of the village and the surrounding mountains. It continues to the Eggerhöfe farmsteads, which are suitable for a relaxed stop; food and drink options may vary by season.

The MĂĽllerkofl circular trail runs around the wooded ridge above Antholz Mittertal. Quiet forest paths offer views of the valley; along the way are the historic Burgegga Mill and traditional farmsteads. Another tour leads to the Mittertaler Ochsenalm: it starts at the Antholz Mittertal sports area and reaches the Alpine pasture at 2,083 metres. The Alpine pasture is not staffed, so do not plan to stop for refreshments there. Kumpflalm offers views across the Antholz Valley and is a starting point for further hikes and panoramic trails in the upper valley.

The trails therefore differ both in their scenery and in their destinations: the circular trail focuses on forests, meadows and village views, while the tour to Ochsenalm leads to an Alpine pasture that is not staffed. Trail conditions can change with the seasons; check local conditions before setting out.

To the Klammbach Waterfall

The Klammbach Waterfall lies above Antholz Mittertal and originates directly from the glacier in the Rieserferner Group. The hike starts at the festival grounds and climbs through a shady forest along Trail No. 12. The waterfall can be viewed up close from a panoramic viewing platform.

At the Eggerhöfe farmsteads, the hike offers an optional climb of around 15 minutes to the Egger Waterfall. This narrow detour is not suitable for pushchairs. The approximate time refers to the climb to the Egger Waterfall, not to the entire hike.

Winter trails and snow sports

The Valle Anterselva cross-country ski trail runs through the village on natural snow. It is ideal for a ski tour both towards the entrance to the valley and towards the biathlon stadium. Antholz Mittertal is also home to the Riepen ski slope; alongside it are a SnowPark and a Kids Park. The trail, slope and parks are seasonal facilities, and their operation depends on winter conditions.

For a winter walk, the route leads from Antholz Mittertal through the snow-covered valley landscape to Lake Antholz. Most of the winter hiking trail is groomed. Check current trail conditions before setting out, as they can change with the seasons.

Nature experiences and local history

Tonis Woldwegile is a family-friendly nature trail in Antholz Mittertal. Play and learning stations explore the theme of the forest. This gives the trail a different focus from the tours to Alpine pastures and waterfalls: here, the emphasis is on experiencing nature and the stations along the route.

Local history can also be discovered at specific sites and buildings. Gruber-Stöckl was remodelled in 1872 and decorated by the painter Rudiferia in 1884. At the “The Rieserferner Find” themed trail station, visitors learn that in the summer of 1992, mountain hut keeper Gottfried Leitgeb found 2,700-year-old clothing at Gamsbichljoch in the Rieserferner Group, at an altitude of 2,850 metres. The finds included two pairs of trousers and leather parts of a shoe. The original finds are in Bolzano.
