You can get to know Oberinn through specific hiking destinations and historic sites. If you are looking for a hotel in Oberinn, you can first consider whether hiking trails or the history surrounding San Leonardo Church and the parish will play a greater role in your stay. The routes differ in their described course and trail character; the church and local history offer a different focus.

Hiking Trails and Views

The Oberinner Wiesen–Die Schian route starts in Auna di Sopra at San Leonardo Church. It first follows hiking trail 4A, then continues to the wayside shrine “Auf der Schian” at an altitude of 1,924 m. From there, panoramic views open up. If you plan to take this route, you can use its starting point, first section, and named destination as your guide. Access in the mountains may vary depending on conditions; trail conditions may also change seasonally. Check the conditions before your hike.

The Schelmsteig connects Oberbozen with Oberinn and Wangen. On the way to Oberinn, it passes through three small gorges; the narrow path is rocky in places. In contrast to the Oberinner Wiesen–Die Schian route, the gorges and the character of the trail are the main focus here, while the other route starts at San Leonardo Church and leads to a wayside shrine with panoramic views. Moarmoos (Oberinner Wiesen) is classified as another protected area.

Church and Local History

San Leonardo Church in Auna di Sopra dates back to the year 1200. It is a so-called chain church: a chain of iron votive offerings extends around the church walls. The year it was built and this distinctive feature give the place a clear cultural and historical significance. Oberinn’s ecclesiastical development is also part of its history: the curacy that developed over time was elevated to an independent parish in the 20th century.

Another historical episode dates to the time of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. Because of its mild climate and its altitude of 1,300 m, Oberinn was intended to become a health resort. These plans were never implemented. This should therefore be understood as an unrealized plan; it does not describe a health resort currently on offer.

Planning Your Stay

The Stieger bus stop is a specific point of reference for finding your way to the RiArco archery course. It is located above the village center of Oberinn; from there, it is a five-minute walk to Pension Resy. From the guesthouse, you will be accompanied to the archery course. Check in advance whether this accompaniment is offered during your visit.

Consider which of these aspects are important for planning your trip, and include Oberinn in your hotel search accordingly.
