When looking for a hotel in Burggrafenamt, it helps to first consider your own travel interests. The following suggestions from Merano range from gardens and city history to cycling routes, thermal baths and events. Think about which of these topics matter for your trip planning, then compare suitable hotels.

Gardens, museum and trails

The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle cover 12 hectares on a site with an elevation difference of 100 metres. The castle houses the Touriseum, which presents 200 years of tourism history in Merano and the rest of South Tyrol through original exhibitions and multimedia displays. The Touriseum can only be reached through the botanical gardens.

The Tappeiner Promenade is one of Europe’s longest and most scenic high-altitude paths. Its vegetation is characterised above all by Mediterranean cypresses and pines. The Val Passiria cycle path starts in the centre of Merano and follows the river, gradually climbing to San Leonardo; most of the route is unpaved. Check the route conditions and classification again before setting off, as both may change.

City history and architecture

Castello Principesco is in the centre of Merano and can be reached via Via Galilei or the arcades. It was restored in the 19th century to recreate a historical late Gothic atmosphere and opened to the public in 1880. The arcades form a double row of houses with low arcades, about 400 metres long. They stretch from Piazza Duomo to Piazza del Grano.

Teatro Puccini was built in 1900 in just 14 months. The building’s features and ornamentation reflect the Art Nouveau style, which is also used throughout the interior. The venue provides a setting for concerts, theatre performances and other events. Art and history enthusiasts can explore the Palais Mamming Museum, whose exhibits span from prehistory to contemporary art and cover social and artistic themes.

The permanent exhibition at the Jewish Museum of Merano tells the story of the everyday lives of Jewish families, their cultural achievements and contributions, as well as their disenfranchisement and persecution under National Socialism. It also addresses the destruction of the community and its difficult post-war reconstruction. The synagogue on Via Schiller remains an active place of worship.

Events and regional products

Since 2007, Asfaltart has transformed Merano into a vast open-air stage every year. The Festa dell'Uva di Merano has been celebrated since 1886 as a festival of thanksgiving for the autumn harvest. Its traditions include parades, gastronomic specialities and wine tastings. The Gran Premio Merano also has a long history: it has been held since 1935 and traditionally takes place on the last Sunday in September. Check the specific event dates before your trip.

The Mercato Meranese brings together agriculture, crafts, tourism and city life. It offers food and craft products grown or made exclusively in South Tyrol. The market is seasonal, and its dates and offerings also depend on the season. Before visiting, check the relevant dates and the current selection.

Thermal baths and swimming options

Terme Merano is located in the heart of the spa town and has 25 pools, a sauna area and a large outdoor park. The main pool and the salt pool are outdoors and can be used year-round. The main pool covers 472 square metres and is heated to 34 degrees; the salt pool is 35 degrees. Their respective temperatures distinguish the two outdoor pools, while the size of the main pool provides an additional point of comparison.
