Lüsen offers a variety of options for a stay: the expansive Lüsner Alm, named hiking trails, a cheese-making experience and seasonal winter activities. If you are looking for a hotel, you can consider whether alpine pastures and views, a specific hiking destination or winter activities should be the focus of your trip.

Lüsner Alm and mountain panorama

The Lüsner Alm covers 23 km² and lies at an altitude of 1,800 to 2,400 metres. It stretches for 20 kilometres from Zumis to Maurerberg and comprises more than 80 individual alpine pastures. From the Lüsner Alm, the panorama extends from Peitlerkofel to the Zillertal Alps. Peitlerkofel is 2,875 metres high and is considered the landmark of Lüsen. The size figures and named endpoints give an idea of the extent of the alpine pasture area; the panorama adds sweeping views between the two mountain destinations.

Hikes with different routes

The hike from Oberflitt to Kreuzwiesen Alm leads across the Lüsner Alm; there is a place to stop for refreshments at the alpine pasture. Another route passes Astalm and continues to the Campill summit, also known as Hörschwanger Kreuz. It then descends to an alpine pasture and returns to Lüsen via Schmalzhaussteig, Flitt and Rungg. A local route starts in Lüsen Dorf, leads to Nikolauskirchl in Petschied and returns via Kreuzweg, Alte Handwerkerzone and the bathing pond. The trails therefore differ in character: one tour leads to a place to stop for refreshments at an alpine pasture, another passes over a summit on its way back to Lüsen, and the local route connects several named stops. The routes help you include a hike in your daily plans based on its destinations and stops.

History and cheese-making experience

Stricker Mill in Lüsen has historical roots dating back to 1645. At Kreuzwiesen Alm, visitors can watch cheese being made and sample fresh mountain cheese directly from the producer. These offer two distinct highlights for your plans: the mill represents a historical connection to the village, while cheese-making and tasting take centre stage at the alpine pasture.

Winter activities in Lüsen

The high-altitude cross-country ski trail network on the Lüsner and Rodenecker Alm covers more than 20 kilometres. In Lüsen, the “Rungg” lift has a children’s area. This gives you a choice of different winter activities: a trail network on two named alpine pastures and a children’s area at a specific lift. If you are planning a winter stay, you can consider these activities separately and decide which matters most for your trip.

Getting here and getting around

When travelling to Lüsen by car, the Bressanone/Varna motorway exit is recommended. From the bypass, the route to Lüsen passes through the town of Brixen. As this recommendation depends on road conditions, check them before you set off. The municipality of Lüsen also has an AlpsGo electric car-sharing service. So, alongside the car route described, the travel information also provides a local mobility option.

Planning your stay

The routes have different starting points and stops; take these into account when planning your own day. This lets you choose the focus of your stay without combining the different hikes or winter activities into a single route.
