Candriai: Park, circular route and historic fortification
Accommodation in Candriai
The specific attractions range from play and sports facilities in the Parco naturale to the circular route to Vaneze and the history of a fortification in the surrounding area. This offers different ways to discover Candriai through activities and historical connections.
Play and sports facilities in the Parco naturale
The children’s play area in the Parco naturale di Candriai has swings, a net carousel and a zip line. There is also a play structure with three towers, a slide, a moving bridge and climbing equipment. The selection therefore includes a variety of play equipment rather than being limited to a single structure.
Sports facilities there include table tennis, a basketball court, a small-sided football pitch and a grass football field. These facilities are free to use. If you plan your visit around a particular facility, check the current situation in advance: the municipal park list may change over time.
Another specific place to visit is the Candriai tennis court. It is available by reservation between 08:00 and 20:00. If this time slot is important for your plans, it is advisable to confirm the hours before your visit.
Circular route from Candriai to Vaneze
The “Candriai - Vaneze - Candriai” circular route begins at the car park by Candriai’s sports grounds. It follows paths and roads through the forests and meadows of the mid-mountain zone to Vaneze. The route is listed as 6.48 kilometres, with an estimated duration of about 2 hours and 25 minutes. Walking time may vary depending on conditions and pace; trail conditions may also vary by season.
The route described includes SAT trail 628 to Malga Brigolina. On the return, after leaving SAT trail 645, the route follows the Trento Nostra path back to Candriai. This makes it possible to identify the circular route both by its destination, Vaneze, and by the named sections of trail. The approximate time is a planning guideline, not a fixed walking time.
Malga Brigolina and animal watching
At Malga Brigolina, there is a guided educational farm tour for observing animals. This makes it a distinct point of interest alongside the hike: the focus here is on guided animal watching. Milk produced at the malga is also processed in its equipped cheese dairy.
These two aspects describe different sides of Malga Brigolina: the guided tour and the processing of milk on site. On the circular route to Vaneze, SAT trail 628 leads to the malga.
Historic fortification in the surrounding area
The Candriai fortification is a ruin and is not open to visitors. From Candriai, it lies along Provincial Road 85 towards Sopramonte, about 1.5 kilometres beyond a bend, and is partly hidden. Its historical context explains the structure’s connection to the area, even though it is not a site visitors can enter.
The fortification was built in 1879–1880. Its function was to control the Sopramonte basin. Its construction period and military purpose provide a brief overview of its history: the fortification was built within a clearly specified period and served a control function for the basin. Its current state as a ruin that is not open to visitors is a separate matter.
Another route to Malga di Candriai
The “Da Sopramonte alla malga di Candriai” route follows a chestnut trail to the village of Candriai and the malga. It is another named route option alongside the circular route via Vaneze. The names help distinguish the destinations: the circular route goes to Vaneze and returns to Candriai via the described sections; the chestnut trail leads to the village and Malga di Candriai.
