Cunevo offers several starting points for planning your trip: churches and historic sites, routes along the Lez irrigation canal, and a landscape shaped by pine forests and apple growing. Depending on your interests, you can make cultural history, nature and different types of routes the focus of your stay.

Churches and historic sites

The Church of San Lorenzo in Cunevo probably dates back to the 13th century. It contains frescoes by Giovanni and Battista Baschenis, dated 1490. This gives you two distinct historical points of reference: the probable date of the church’s construction and the year attributed to the frescoes.

The Chiesa del Redentore was built around 1850 in the centre of Cunevo and is larger than the earlier church. The Chiesa del Santissimo Redentore was solemnly consecrated on 11 August 1876. Castel La Santa lies south of Cunevo in a commanding position. The remains of the ancient Castel Corona are set inside a rocky cave beside the road to Malga d’Arza. The descriptions therefore differ in their local reference points: Castel La Santa is described by its position south of Cunevo, while Castel Corona is associated with the cave and the road to Malga d’Arza.

Landscape and local character

The surrounding pine forests give Cunevo a distinctive, picturesque character. At the same time, the village is an important centre for fruit growing, particularly apple production.

Routes along the Lez and in the surrounding area

The Sentiero Margherita is a level path that follows the Lez irrigation canal. It runs between Terres and Cunevo; along the way, there are equipped rest areas where you can stop. At the start of the Sentiero Margherita, there is a parking bay on the road from Cunevo towards Malga Arza. There is also a large wooden sign there with an aerial map of the route and information about the history of the old Lez.

The Lez was built more than 160 years ago to irrigate the fields of Terres, Flavon and Cunevo. So the Sentiero Margherita does more than follow a canal: its purpose also points to the irrigation history of these three villages. The panoramic sixth stage of the Cammino Jacopeo d’Anaunia leads to Cunevo and continues towards Castel La Santa. It offers a different perspective from the level path along the Lez: here, Cunevo is part of a described stage that continues towards Castel La Santa.

For mountain biking, a route starts at the foot of Monte Corno in Adamello-Brenta Nature Park, at Bar Ciclamino in Cunevo. It is moderately difficult and runs through mid-altitude forests. The route reaches Malga Arza at 1,506 metres; the mountain hut is set on extensive alpine pastures with views over the lower Non Valley. There are therefore different types of routes to choose from: a level path along the Lez, a panoramic stage of the Cammino Jacopeo d’Anaunia, and a moderately difficult mountain biking route. As accessibility in the mountains can vary, check the latest conditions before setting out.
