Fucine brings together an unusually early industrial history, historic buildings and cycling routes in Val di Sole. When choosing a hotel in Fucine, it helps to distinguish between two aspects of the village: the traces of its origins and the routes that pass through Fucine or return here. This way, you can plan your stay according to whether you mainly want to learn about the village’s history, go cycling, or combine both.

History and buildings

The settlement of Fucine grew out of an exceptionally dense concentration of industrial sites established as part of the exploitation of the ore deposits of Peio between the late 14th and early 15th centuries. This industrial origin dates to a different period from the later construction histories of the churches and the Casa del Dazio.

The Casa del Dazio in Fucine preserves an important painted façade, created in 1671 at the request of tax collector Carlo Busetti. The year dates the façade painting. The church of Fucine was rebuilt between 1902 and 1904 after the previous church building was destroyed by the 1849 flood. The two buildings therefore have different historical points of reference: a precisely dated decorative work at the Casa, and the rebuilding of the church after its destruction.

The Fera dei Sét is a traditional livestock fair in Ossana-Fucine.

Cycling routes and getting around

The Pista Ciclopedonale della Val di Sole passes through Fucine and extends for more than 30 kilometres from the upper Val di Sole to Mostizzolo. From Fucine, it continues northwest into Val di Peio.

The Anello Laghetti di San Leonardo offers a different option: this circular route is rated easy, is 12.5 kilometres long and has a stated duration of 1 hour and 25 minutes; it then returns to Fucine. Compared with the Pista, which is more than 30 kilometres long, it is the shorter circular option with a stated duration. Seasonal conditions may affect whether it can be used. Before setting out, check that conditions on your planned day are suitable for your tour.

For longer cycling plans, the Bike-Train service may be useful: it carries bicycles on the Mostizzolo–Mezzana section of the Val di Sole cycling route. As service conditions may change, check the latest terms before including this section in your plans.

The Tour dei Forti N°704 lists the bus station in Fucine di Ossana or the Ossana sports ground as starting points. If you plan to park there, check parking options locally. The Ponte di Legno–Ossana route also has a bus stop in Fucine; check the current timetable if you plan to use this route for your outward or return journey.
