Locca at the entrance to Val Concei
Accommodation in Locca
Locca lies at the entrance to the green Val Concei, just beyond the village of Bezzecca. Trails with different routes, historic church connections and the Centro culturale di Locca offer specific points of interest for a stay. To find your way around, it is worth distinguishing routes by their sections and destinations.
Trails and route planning
The Val Concei nature trail is an easy route covering 8.5 kilometres. It takes 2 hours and 30 minutes. The ascent involves 220 metres of elevation gain, as does the descent. Together, these figures provide a concrete basis for planning the route. As route details can change due to operational or natural factors, it is advisable to check them shortly before setting out.
The Val Concei Tour first follows a cycle path towards Bezzecca, then takes the provincial road towards Locca until the route reaches the village. The change from cycle path to provincial road offers a clear guide to the route.
The Coste di Bariolo route heads towards Val Concei and passes through the woods above Locca. This distinguishes it from the Val Concei Tour: here, the woodland section and direction of the valley are the main reference points, while the tour follows a cycle path and provincial road.
From Locca, farm tracks lead to Enguiso and Lenzumo. There, you can take the valley-floor nature trail; for mountain bikers, it is designated Route 728 and leads to the village of Al Faggio. The farm tracks and valley-floor trail thus have clearly named destinations: Enguiso and Lenzumo on the one hand, and Al Faggio as the onward destination on the other. The designation Route 728 refers to the valley-floor trail.
During a walk in Val Concei, the elegant 18th-century fountain in Locca is a good place to refill your water. This makes it a specific point to consider when planning your walk.
Church history and culture
A former chapel, from which the Chiesa di San Martino Vescovo developed, is documented as far back as 1537. The church acquired its present appearance through an extension in 1730. The dates mark different stages: 1537 refers to the predecessor chapel, and 1730 to the extension.
Three consecrated altars at the Chiesa di San Martino are recorded for the year 1671. The main altar was dedicated to the church’s patron saint, San Martino, and the two side altars to San Rocco and Santa Maria Maddalena, respectively. The three altars are thus distinguished by their individual dedications.
The Centro culturale di Locca is licensed to host conferences, small concerts, film screenings and theatre performances. The programme may vary. So if you would like to combine your visit with an event, check the current schedule.
