At Passo Del Tonale, winter sports, hiking trails and sites of historical and cultural interest offer different ways to spend your stay. If you are looking for a hotel, it helps to first sort out your planned activities: the trails vary in duration, route and requirements, while some historical sites specify particular access arrangements. The key is to consider each activity separately: an approximate walking time answers a different planning question than the difficulty of a stage or access to a historic interior.

Skiing and Snowkiting

The Pontedilegno-Tonale ski area has 100 kilometres of pistes. Snowkiting is also possible there. The total piste length gives you an idea of the size of the ski area, while snowkiting is an additional winter sport. This helps you decide whether to focus your holiday on skiing or include snowkiting.

Walks and Hiking Trails

The Parco delle Marmotte at Passo Tonale is an activity trail for children with seven stations. From Passo Tonale, it can be reached on foot via a gravel road in about an hour and a half. The seven stations reflect the family-friendly nature of the destination. For planning your day, the starting point, surface and approximate duration also offer practical guidance. Distinguish between the walk to the park and the activity trail itself: the approximate hour and a half refers to the walk from Passo Tonale, while the seven stations are part of the Parco.

The Sentiero della Pace begins at Passo del Tonale. The first two stages require extensive experience and specialised equipment. Another hike at the Presena Glacier leads downhill from Capanna Presena to Lago del Monticello. The trail is easy and offers panoramic views, passing through high-alpine landscapes recently exposed by the retreat of the glaciers. You can choose a route based on different features: for the Parco, duration and surface are clear; at Presena, direction and trail character matter; and on the Sentiero, the first stages have specific requirements.

Historical and Cultural Sites and Access

The Sacrario della Prima Guerra Mondiale at Tonale is a memorial to the First World War, built in 1936 by architect Pietro Del Fabbro. Its year of construction and architect provide specific historical points of reference for your visit.

The Galleria Paradiso can be reached from Passo Tonale by the Paradiso cable car. At Forte Zaccarana, the interior can be explored in part and only as part of a guided tour. Visit planning therefore differs: for the Galleria, the cable car timetable is relevant; for the Forte, check whether guided tours are currently available. Check these details in advance if you plan to visit either site.
