When planning a stay in Sfruz, you can choose from a range of points of interest: centuries-old stove-making craftsmanship, historic village architecture, forest trails and the bee house. This allows you to give cultural interests and time outdoors separate weight in your travel plans.

Craftsmanship and Village Character

Sfruz’s centuries-old craft tradition is closely associated with the particularly high-quality traditional “Stufe ad Olle” stoves. They have multicoloured terracotta facings glazed in the fire. Stove-making was widespread in Sfruz from the 16th century onwards.

Sfruz has preserved its original village layout, with rural houses and grand buildings. The historic buildings are distinguished by stone portals, some frescoes and wooden structures. On Via Predaia, you can see a portal with a coat of arms and a pointed arch. At the upper end of the street, behind the playground, there is a high relief of Saint Barbara, the patron saint of miners.

Sfruz’s parish church is the Chiesa di Sant'Agata. Inside, a restored 18th-century fresco depicts floral motifs, acanthus leaves and fruit arrangements.

Forest Trails

The Sette Fontane trail connects Vervò and Sfruz and passes through the fir forests of Tovalin and Somassolo. It is also suitable for mountain bikes.

The Sentiero dei Cavai runs through the forests in the Rio Sette Fontane valley between Tres and Smarano–Sfruz. It provides access to the rocky outcrop locally known as “Vout Sette Fontane”. From the Sentiero dei Cavai, you can reach Sfruz in about 15 to 20 minutes by following gently uphill farm tracks after leaving the forest. Conditions on both trails may change; check them before setting out.

Bee House and Experiences

Sfruz’s historic bee house is a small wooden building owned by the municipality. It was built in the early 20th century thanks to Rino Poli. Since 2023, you can discover the life of bees and the surrounding biodiversity here. The bee house is easily reached on foot from the main square, Piazza Degasperi.

The “Face to Face with the Bees” experience, offered by the MMape Bee Mill Museum and APS L'Alveare, includes a short walk, a visit to the bee house, safe observation of the bees through a flight chamber, and a tasting of local honeys.

“Eatable Herbs”, also offered by the MMape Bee Mill Museum and APS L'Alveare, includes a guided walk to identify wild herbs. It also provides information about their traditional use in Trentino culture and the preparation of an herbal remedy to take home. The experiences have different focuses: one combines bee-watching with honey tasting, while the other pairs herb identification with practical preparation. If you plan to take part in one, check the dates and booking options in advance.

Landscape and Local Connections

Sfruz stretches between Monte Roen and Corno di Tres. The village is also known for potato growing. Together, stove-making and potato growing point to two distinct local connections: craftsmanship and agriculture.
