Discover Tenna: Trails, Fort and Lake Views
Accommodation in Tenna
Tenna can be explored through two themes: trails through the landscape and places of cultural and historical interest. If you are looking for a hotel in Tenna, these highlights can help you shape your plans for your stay: the Giro del Colle di Tenna is an 11.5-kilometre hike with lake views; Forte di Tenna, Chiesetta di San Valentino and a Roman milestone point to different historical connections. There are also nature trails by a biotope, through woodland and alongside art, as well as walking routes with artworks and viewpoints.
Hiking Trails and Landscape
The Giro del Colle di Tenna is an 11.5-kilometre hike through nature, offering views of Lago di Levico and Lago di Caldonazzo. You can start in Tenna; along the way, the trail passes close to Forte di Tenna and Chiesetta di San Valentino. This route brings together nature, views of both lakes and the proximity of two cultural sites.
Other nature trails have their own distinct focus. At Biotopo di Pizé, Tenna has a nature trail in Val de l'Orco. Dòs dei Osèi runs over the high ground near Lago di Caldonazzo. Another nature trail on Tenna’s northern side passes through woodland and Val de l'Orco to Alberè Park, where nature and art come together. The destinations therefore highlight different landscape features: the high ground near Lago di Caldonazzo, the biotope in Val de l'Orco, or woodland and art along the route to Alberè.
Route statistics and trail conditions for the Giro may change; conditions on the trails near the cultural sites and on the route to Alberè Park can also vary. Check the latest route information before setting out.
History, Art and Views
Forte di Tenna was built between 1880 and 1882 as part of the Austro-Hungarian defence system that blocked off the Valsugana. From Tenna, you can reach the fort via Piazza San Rocco, Via Roma and Via S. Valentino. Road conditions can change, so check the latest situation before heading to the fort.
Chiesetta di San Valentino stands on the ridge of Colle di Tenna along the ancient Via Claudia Augusta Altinate. From there, views extend over Lago di Caldonazzo and Lago di Levico. A Roman milestone found in Tenna adds a specific historical detail: it bears the inscription “XXXXI [M(ilia) p(assuum)]”, which indicated the distance from Feltre.
Bosco della Memoria offers a different focus for a walk: the trail is 480 metres long and features 23 works by artists from Trentino. From two viewpoints, you can see Lago di Levico. Here, artworks and lake views combine along the walking route.
The “I Segreti degli Gnomi” walking trail is divided into two routes: the one with the red gnome is dedicated to children, while the one with the green gnome is for families. The walking trail is currently closed; check its latest status before your trip.
Two Different Trail Lengths
For planning purposes, you can compare the Giro del Colle di Tenna with Bosco della Memoria: an 11.5-kilometre hike versus a 480-metre walking trail. The Giro is characterised by views of both lakes and a route that passes close to cultural sites; Bosco features 23 artworks and two viewpoints over Lago di Levico. This allows you to weigh up both the distance and the type of experience.
