Tesero combines historic features with themes of traditional crafts and winter sports. The built-up center lies on the valley slope and is geologically characterized by Quaternary glacial deposits of the Sintema del Garda. Churches, shrines, sundials, frescoes and communal bread ovens—known as “forni dal pan”—shape the appearance of the historic center. When planning your trip, you can explore different sides of the town, from its architectural and artistic history to its sporting connections.

Churches, Frescoes and Casa Jellici

The Church of San Leonardo in Tesero was probably built between the late 14th and early 15th centuries. Its interior was decorated with frescoes in 1541–1542 by an anonymous Friulian master. The cemetery church of San Rocco dates back to 1528. Its façade is entirely covered in frescoes and features the image known as “Cristo della Domenica.” The two churches offer different points of entry for exploring Tesero’s religious architectural and artistic history.

Another historic building is Casa Jellici, which is used as a museum. Exhibitions and concerts are held there; the specific program may vary. Together with the frescoes and other features of the historic center, it adds to the town’s cultural appeal and complements its traditional crafts.

Crafts and Events

Tesero’s traditional crafts include furniture and musical instrument making. The communal bread ovens, known in the historic center as “forni dal pan,” also reflect local traditions. During the Christmas season, “Tesero e i suoi Presepi” transforms streets, courtyards, stables and cellars into part of a large Nativity scene. The event takes place during the Christmas season; check the specific dates before your trip.

At “Le Corte de Tiezer,” “A stroz par le corte” is the highlight. The walking tour combines food and drink tastings with demonstrations of traditional crafts, dances, singing and music. If you are interested in the connection between local customs and traditional activities, this event offers a different focus from the churches and museum.

Winter Sports and Remembrance
