Torcegno combines a rich cultural heritage with a high plateau, centuries-old chestnut groves and routes through the landscape. If you are looking for a hotel in Torcegno, you can plan your stay around the themes that interest you most: sacred history and art, walks among pastures and old farmhouses, or trips to mountain huts. The different options offer practical guidance for planning, without requiring you to experience culture and nature in the same way.

Culture and History in Torcegno

The parish church is dedicated to the holy apostles Bartholomew and Andrew. It was built in 1327, rebuilt in 1430 and consecrated in 1586. These three dates mark different phases in its history. The church also contains a Stations of the Cross created in 1775 by Valentino Rovisi of Moena together with his daughter Vincenza. Looking at the building’s history and the artwork offers two different ways to approach the church: its long history of construction and a work with a specific date.

The cemetery chapel is associated with a different historical period. It was probably built in 1849, when the new cemetery was established. The date is explicitly uncertain. Together, the church and cemetery chapel show how Torcegno’s historical landmarks span different centuries; the art in the parish church adds a distinct 18th-century note.

Hiking Routes, Mountain Huts and Landscape

At an altitude of 1,703 metres, Torcegno is home to Malga Valarica di Sopra and its Centro Natura e Trekking. It is the first stop on several trekking routes leading to various mountain huts in the Lagorai. This makes it a prominent point of reference for anyone interested in trekking and the connection between the nature centre and the mountain huts. The routes lead to different destinations rather than focusing on just one viewpoint.

The Nordic walking loop also offers a change of scenery: after leaving the village, it first runs beneath centuries-old chestnut trees; its final section follows narrow country roads. Along the way, there are views of the surrounding mountains and Torcegno. Those who would rather explore landscapes of pastures and mountain huts can find walks through grazing areas in the valleys of Suerta, Musiera, Cavè and Porcheria, passing mountain huts and carefully restored old farmhouses. The chestnut loop and the routes through the valleys therefore differ mainly in the landscape features described.

Another route links the Chiesetta di Santa Maria Ausiliatrice with the ruins of Castel San Pietro and continues to the summit of Monte Ciolino. Along this route, the focus is on historical remains and a named summit. Near Malga Casapinello, the Sentiero dei Larici also passes a small body of water surrounded by larch trees and equipped for barbecuing. This natural spot offers a different focus from the historical destinations and routes through grazing areas.

Mountain Bike Tour and Cheese from Traditional Mountain Huts

The Mountain Bike Giro Val di Cavè starts in Località Campestrini in Torcegno. The tour includes a stop at characteristic mountain huts, where you can sample cheese made using traditional methods. As route conditions can change, it is a good idea to take them into account when planning your ride. It is also advisable to check in advance about the planned stop so you can plan the tasting accordingly.

The choice of activity therefore depends on your specific interests: the Giro Val di Cavè combines mountain biking with a stop for cheese tasting; the Nordic walking loop runs beneath chestnut trees and later along narrow country roads; the routes through the four valleys take you to pastures, mountain huts and restored farmhouses.
