Alpine setting and how to get there

Tregiovo is set in the Alps on the left bank of the Pescara stream, amid forests and meadows. The small village lies in a sheltered position in Val di Non and faces South Tyrol. Its connection to the Pescara is therefore as much a part of the village’s character as the surrounding landscape. To get there, follow the state road connecting Revò with Val d'Ultimo; turn uphill at the sign for Tregiovo. Check road conditions separately before setting out.

San Maurizio: two phases of church history

The historic church of San Maurizio on the hill near Tregiovo was consecrated in 1512; construction of the new church of San Maurizio began in 1788. The dates mark different phases: 1512 refers to the consecration of the older church, while 1788 marks the beginning of the new building. This places the two dates in context without conflating them into a single construction event. The Campanile di Tregiovo stands on Dosso di San Maurizio, where the old church once stood. Remains of its foundations and churchyard are preserved there. The bell tower stands alone in the meadows above the village, separate from its church.

Artwork and local details

The church of San Maurizio contains an altarpiece depicting the Madonna and Child by Mattia Lampi. In the new church, a Stations of the Cross from the Lampi workshop has been preserved and hung. The attributions differ: Mattia Lampi is named as the artist of the altarpiece, while the Stations of the Cross are attributed to the workshop. There is also a fresco of Saint Florian above the entrance portal of Maso Siban. Together, these details showcase different art forms and subjects, each associated with a specific location in Tregiovo.

Walks and routes

The area around Tregiovo offers easy walks. The Via di Morti leads to the Campanile di Tregiovo, while a circular route connects Tregiovo with Lauregno. This circular route is marked with trail marker 31 of the Lauregno tourist association. The descriptions provide different points of reference: the Via di Morti leads to the bell tower, while the circular route connects the two villages. Check trail conditions and markings on site.

The Rankipino route, which is for cyclists and pedestrians, also passes through Tregiovo and Lauregno on its way to Passo di Brez; the section through the two villages to the pass follows a paved road. Unlike the walking routes, Passo di Brez is the stated destination here. As route and surface conditions can change, check them before your outing. The Campanile, Lauregno and Passo di Brez offer different points of reference when choosing a route.

Traditions throughout the year

Local customs are also tied to specific dates. The Madonna del Rosario procession traditionally takes place every year on the first Sunday in October. The Corpus Christi celebration traditionally takes place in the first half of June on the village’s central streets. If you would like to plan your trip around either celebration, check the current event dates in advance.
