Ziano di Fiemme between forest trails and history

Ziano di Fiemme lies on the Avisio, opposite the Lagorai range. Spruce forests and mostly flat green areas extend to the edge of the built-up area. Getting oriented and trails around the village

Ziano di Fiemme is accessible by Trentino Trasporti buses. Check routes and timetables before travelling. To hike to Cima Cauriol, the approach from Ziano follows the road to Sadole; road and parking conditions may vary.

Five forest hikes are a short distance from the village centre. They vary in length and difficulty. There is also a dense network of hiking trails in the Latemar Dolomites and along the Lagorai range. Check the conditions on your chosen route before setting out.

Le Cascatelle di Ziano leads through a densely forested hillside above the Ziano cycle path and through the hamlets of Roda and Bosin. The route is described as a relaxing hike; conditions on the mountain trail may vary after rain. Le scritte dei pastori, by contrast, is a moderately difficult trail to the shepherds’ rock inscriptions on Monte Cornón and at the Pizzancae. Check trail conditions before setting off.

The seasonal Presepi nel Bosco loop starts in Zanolin, passes through Cavelonte and runs through the forest. In winter, conditions may affect the walking surfaces. Another winter option is the flat Passeggiata “Campagna” di Predazzo: it crosses snow-covered meadows south of Predazzo and continues to Ziano di Fiemme. Snow and surfaces change with the season.

For accessibility-focused planning, the Montagna Senza Limiti project features routes that can be travelled by electric wheelchair. The route described is in the municipality, on the valley floor by the Avisio. Its accessibility rating may depend on current trail conditions.

Bike ride and tasting

The green Easy Bike Ring is an easy 6.6-kilometre route between Ziano di Fiemme and Panchià. Road and trail conditions may change seasonally. This offers another way to connect the two villages on a short cycling route, while the hiking trails vary in length and difficulty.

The Passeggiata “Una passeggiata da… assaporare” starts in Ziano di Fiemme and includes a tasting of the renowned Puzzone di Moena cheese at a dairy. If you plan to make the tasting a fixed part of your itinerary, check the seasonal opening arrangements for the stop in advance.

Churches and local history

The Madonna di Loreto church overlooks Ziano di Fiemme’s main square. It was built between 1660 and 1666 with the support of Baron Giovanni Giorgio Firmian. At Sant’Anna in Roda, the first chapel was built between 1710 and 1714 on the hamlet’s main road, facing south. The church was completely rebuilt in 1792, giving it its present appearance.

The open-air museum “Museo a cielo aperto” includes Villa Flora. It formerly served as the headquarters of the command of the 13th Austro-Hungarian Mountain Brigade. The rocks of Monte Cornón are also of historical interest: the massif lies above Tesero, Panchià, Ziano di Fiemme and Predazzo. An estimate reported in 2023 puts the number of messages painted there at 48,000; the figure may be revised as further documentation becomes available.

The ski lifts for the Latemar Dolomites and Alpe Cermis ski areas are near Ziano di Fiemme.
