Discover Taber: Nature, Culture and Recreation
Accommodation in Taber
Taber combines nature experiences, public memorials and a variety of recreational activities. Other Taber highlights include the Taber Giant Corn Stalk and Cornfest. The Tank 77 Museum, Aquafun Centre and Farmers Market add local history, indoor activities and local goods. Depending on your interests, you can plan your stay around nature by the water, culture or family-friendly recreation.
Nature at Taber Trout Pond and walking paths
The Taber Trout Pond Recreational Area offers an opportunity to experience the natural prairie landscape. Geese, ducks and other migratory birds are likely to be seen in the area, making wildlife watching a possible part of your stay. There is a fishing pier on the shore that everyone can use. Non-motorized watercraft such as kayaks are also permitted at Trout Pond. This gives you the choice of a shore-based fishing opportunity and an on-the-water activity in the same place.
For walks, the Town of Taber has three designated sections of walking paths. You can consider this walking option alongside activities at Trout Pond when planning your visit.
Landmarks, remembrance and Cornfest
The Taber Giant Corn Stalk is a 36-foot-tall sculpture that was erected in November 1994. Its ears of corn are about 4 feet tall; visitors can also admire the detailed corn silks made of brass wire. The contrast in scale between the entire work and the ears of corn illustrates the dimensions of the corn motif, while the wire detail draws attention to the craftsmanship. The sculpture is also a roadside photo stop along Highway 3.
Several memorial ceremonies are held at the Taber Cenotaph throughout the year. During Cornfest, the main event takes place at Confederation Park at 50th Avenue and 50th Street; additional activities are held in downtown Taber. The event layout may change from year to year, so check the latest event information before travelling.
Tank 77 Museum and local history
The Tank 77 Museum is in the Historic Plains region, in the wider area around Taber. Its free local history exhibits highlight various cultures and events that have shaped Taber and the surrounding communities. Visitors can explore independently or take more in-depth guided tours. Admission is free, and donations are welcome. Check visitor and admission policies before travelling, as they may change.
Recreation and local goods
The Aquafun Centre in Taber offers family-friendly indoor recreation in a heated setting, including a swimming pool and a waterslide. The difference between indoor and nature-based activities is clear: Aquafun offers a heated indoor experience, while the focus at Trout Pond is on prairie landscapes, birdlife and non-motorized watercraft.
The annual Farmers Market in Taber offers local, handmade and specialty goods. If you enjoy browsing local goods and unique products while travelling, the market is a distinct reason to visit alongside the sights and recreational offerings. Schedules and vendors vary seasonally, so check the latest market information before your visit.
