Strathmore combines a distinctive local history with recreational activities, parks and recurring events. When looking for a hotel in Strathmore, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on during your stay: Is the town’s history your main interest, are you interested in disc golf and swimming, or are you planning your trip around a particular event? For events, the dates are especially important.

A Town with an Unusual History

In 1905, Strathmore’s original hamlet was moved four miles north as part of the development of the irrigation system. The newly laid-out town grew around a 5,600-foot railway spur. The relocation gave the town its legacy as “the town that moved.” The figures describe two different aspects: four miles refers to the move north, while 5,600 feet is the length of the railway spur.

Another way to explore the town’s history is the “Life in Strathmore” tour. It takes visitors through the streets of Strathmore to explore the history of this prairie town. As it is a digital tour, check whether it is available before your trip.

Disc Golf and Swimming

Strathmore’s disc golf course has 18 holes winding through several parks across the town. The layout is spread across different park areas rather than being confined to a single park. Alongside the course, the Strathmore Disc Golf Club hosts annual tournaments and regular league nights. The tournaments and league nights are open to all ages and skill levels. The course layout and schedules may change; check the latest information before your visit.

The Strathmore Aquatic Centre has a six-lane, 25-metre pool with a diving board and climbing wall. There is also a children’s pool with spray features. If swimming is part of your travel plans, you can take into account the details of the main pool and the separate children’s pool. Check the centre’s operating conditions before your visit.

Events and Seasonal Dates

The Strathmore Stampede takes place annually over the long August weekend. The program includes “Running with the Bulls,” a CPRA professional rodeo, and races by the World Professional Chuckwagon Association. If you want to plan your trip around the Stampede, check the exact dates and program for the year in question.

In 2026, the Strathmore Farmers Market brought together local farmers, bakers, artisans and producers every Friday from June 5 to September 18. Visitors could sample fresh produce there. This period makes the market a seasonal point of reference for travel planning; the Stampede, by contrast, takes place annually over the long August weekend.

Parks and Walks

Gray Park is a protected wetland with nature and gravel trails, as well as benches. Kinsmen Park is known for scenic walks along tree-lined paths. The two parks therefore offer different experiences: Gray Park combines wetlands and trails, while Kinsmen Park is described as a place for walks along tree-lined paths.

Kinsmen Park also has an amphitheatre for concerts and events. The events held there may change; check the latest dates if you are planning a specific visit. This lets you consider the park’s trails and amphitheatre as different features of the same park.
